(Atari 10400 anyone?)

Oh my god, is that even more powerful than The Atari 8000, "The Most Powerful Cybernetic 'Brain' Ever Designed"???

I'm just wondering how I slept right through that 5-day War...? Wow.. I must have been tired!

Frankly I haven't really seen any original game ideas on the consoles since the NES.

Consarnit, even the NES was just the 2600...and really, the 2600 was just PONG all over again!
And I sure do have a lot of copies of Pong on my shelves.

Whatever. In my time as a PS2 owner, all I saw were 'lowest common denominator' games (with a couple of exceptions, one of them begins with 'I' :) ). There was nothing there that surprised me. It's the popularity of Sony's lazy console that's holding gaming up.
I held off buying one for a couple of years anyway until the rest of the world had caught up with the Dreamcast.

One thing that got me thinking about the PS2 legacy was this: I got an old copy of Panzer Dragoon Zwei on the Saturn this morning. My first thought on loading it was WOW! A really clever shooter with 16:9 support, great story and voice work, brilliant! Now, this game is OLD (7 years) and this shouldn't be happening. The PS2 should have made this LOOK old by now. Just clean the textures up, pile on a bit more draw-in distance and you have yourself a potential PS2 number one game.
Sony have been resting on their laurels too long. It's holding companies like Nintendo up too, they're playing it safe with ever more prediactable stuff because the mass market just aren't ready for the next wave.
If we'd just gone straight from Dreamcast to Xbox, there would be some VERY cool games around at the moment - all we have is bloody sequels.

Sorry if this is a tad disjointed, bit of a flow of consciousness thing (and not enough coffee yet :D )

My PS2 is still nice and shiny because I use it almost every day. Ditto my Nintendo 64 and Super Nintendo and Atari 2600. These consoles have the FUN which other consoles are sadly lacking.

Sony just invited the every day mainstream public into video gaming. Thats where the creativity has gone, thats where the games have gone. The Ps2 is a pretty crap system. So?? It doesnt meen that decent games cant be made for it, they just havent. I feel in a way my favourite past time has been invaded ,,,,,,

%80 of vid players have a PS2, %2 of the releases are good

%? of vid players have a DC, %90 of the releases are good

Go Figure,,,

That many people simply can NOT be wrong. And if they are, well, there's enough of them to MAKE it be right.
Oh, how wrong you are.

The PlayStation sells on Word of Mouth alone. People buy it because either A) They think it's the best. (Which it's not. Not be a long shot.), B) they don't know enough about the other systems to warrant getting those instead or C) "My friend has one. So I should get one too!"

I think C is the biggest factor these days. We all want to have what
our buddies have. Some people don't mind being the lone wolf but most
want to be able to trade games and talk about their favorite PS2 titles.

I'm satisfied with the PS2's technology (although I lust after the Xbox
harddrive) my dissapointment has been with the large selection of
crap titles. There just hasn't been much that got me excited unlike all
the other lead systems of the past 15 years which all consistently
came out with games I wanted.

I have a PS2 and I own like 8 games (Crazy Taxi, Hitman 2, Red Faction 2, Ace Combat 4, Max Payne, Simpsons Road Rage, Metal Gear Solid 2 and GTA VC) 5 of those games are 'Greates Hits' I do really enjoy playing any of those games (Ace combat 4 it's pretty sweet with nice graphics and sound) Crappy DVD player? It does what it's suppost to do, play DVDs.

Also I have a DC and in the other hand, I had only 3 games (Virtua Tennis, Resident Evil and Figthing Force 2) Virtua Tennis IT'S THE GAME!!! I spend most of my time playing tennis. Also I had Nester so I play my favorites NES games.

Still the PS2 it's my console of choice for the FPS and RPGs like GTA (Rockstar games please keep it up!!)

PS2 might be a piece of crap, but still the only console that had a bunch of games every time I go to the store (4 panels for PS2 and 1 for Xbox and 1 for GC) I think game developers will continue to move foward to create better games for the PS2.

Whatever we like it or not, PS2 it's the most popular console out there.
Just my .02
