I traded away my TI 99/4a a hile back (no regrets), but am considering getting a new one. What games, if any are enjoyable?

Donkey Kong
Parsec
TI Invaders
Tunnels of Doom
Shamus

There are many fun TI games. I dislike only a few. I would find it easier to make a list of games to avoid than games to recommend.

I'm hearing alot of good things about the TI. Should I get one? I have two Atari 8-bits, a VIC-20, and a C64. They've all pleased me, and I wouldn't mind having another great classic computer. :)

There's a whole bunch of add-on levels for Tunnels of Doom. I bought a bunch of them from Tigercub PD Software years back. Tigercub's gone now; the guy who ran it passed away. I bought a lot of great disk games from him over the years. If you get a Peripheral Expansion Box, let me know. I'll have to hook up the ol' TI and send you some disks.

Burgertime on the TI is one of the best versions available. Super Demon Attack is good, Fathom is a lot of fun too. Protector II (from Atarisoft) is a pretty interesting Defender type game. Microsurgeon is more impressive on the TI than the Intellivision version.

There's a whole lot more that I can't recall at the moment. I'll have to go through my collection tomorrow.

That's because the quest editor was available.

Used to have a copy acquired from a user's group.
Alas, the disk went bad.

Anyways...

Tunnels of Doom.
SUPER Demon Attack.
Blasto.
Hustle.
Defender.
MunchMan.
Parsec.
Microsurgeon.
Star Trek.
Moon Mine.
Buck Rogers.
Meteor Belt.

And I strongly recommend the Speech Synthesizer. It rules.

MunchMan and TI Invaders are 2 of TI's famed knock-offs.
They actually had several people assigned to cloning popular arcade games, then they ran the games by legal to see if they were diffrent enough to avoid a lawsuit.

Funny thing about Alpiner...
It's not a very good game except through the eyes of nostalgia.

In fact, it's often downright infuriating.
...
And a VERY poor use of the speech synthesizer. Last thing I need is the computer mocking me because it set up an unavoidable rockslide.

I thought that there was another mountain climbing game. It was made by Milton Bradley for the MBX system. The MBX was the Milton Bradley eXpansion system, which was a giant white box you plugged into the joystick port. The box had a big membrane key grid on it that you put overlays on for certain games, like the baseball game. You then plugged in a really cool joystick (kind of like Coleco's super action controllers) and a pair of headphones with a mike on it - for voice recognition! The games had to be designed for accepting voice input, like the baseball game and others like Superfly and Sewermania. From the people who had it, I heard that it was a truly great gaming experience. It's next to impossible to find an MBX system nowadays, because nobody's willing to give them up! There was a mountain climbing game, a game called Space Bandits, and a couple of others that required the system. Then there were the ones I have that could be played without the MBX, like Sewermania and Superfly. Those two are really good games by themselves, but Sewermania would have been a lot easier if I could control the sewer gates by voice.

I'll second a vote for Parsec, it's really sweet with the speech synthesizer add on. In fact, I kinda fell into having a TI setup. Just bought a loose one to steal the graphics chip for a colecovision project, but my childhood memories of Parsec got too strong, so hooked it up :)

Another good game is Slymoids. You have to clear out four multi-screen levels of enemies. Nice graphics, good sound effects.

I still enjoy giving Alpiner a go, it's kinda cool.

The TI has a LOT of excellent games. The Donkey Kong is particularly good. My personal favorite is Blasto, though.

I don't think many MBXes were made to begin with, actually.

I have Superfly and Meteor Belt.
No MBX unit, though. Fortunately, they both work with just a 4a, and rather well.
