The Vectrex can't even handle Asteroids or other B&W arcade games.

There is Rockaroids which John Dondzila has been perfecting for several iterations. The last version Third Rock is an excellent port of Asteroids! and I've got it setup so I can use the 5 button Starplex (asteroids arcade style) controller!

And do you really want MUSIC while the Invaders invade?

BTW: The Moon Patrol demo on the Vectrex has lots of background music .. but it's still glorious B&W!

Zax: Rose colored glasses are making you red all over!

The Vectrex rocks like it is 1982 all over again!

From Zaxxon...

I never said the system is bad.  It helps if you read my posts.

Sorry, guess I misunderstood.. You see, I read this:

Quote

It's weak and VERY limited compared to the other classic consoles.

Guess it's my fault for assuming that "weak and VERY limited" was the same as bad. Don't know how I got that one wrong??? ;)

You sure you read your own posts??? :?

It's OK if you didn't like the system. But you don't need to try to justify your tastes by saying the system is bad.

I never said the system is bad. It helps if you read my posts. I never said I didn't like the system. I like it but I'm not in love with it. The original poster is asking for opinions on the Vectrex. It's good but not as good a system overall as other systems available in 1982. It's not the best classic system IMO. Try looking at it objectively, not from a fanboy perspective. You've convinced yourself it's much, much better than it really is. It's vector based and that makes it unique.

You've sure made a lot of friends after only five whole posts!!! ;)

I just got my Vextrex in the mail today and have been playing the built-in game for several hours. The sound is perfect, no hum, and the only thing missing is the plastic piece for the controller. I can't wait for the multicart to arrive. Man, I can't believe I went so long without reacquiring this excellent game system. Playing it made me feel like I was in one of the old arcades of my childhood. :D

no hum
What? You're not getting the TRUE Vecterx feel then!!

:-)

Mine hums... Not much of an issue when I'm playing a game tho, but I've considered fixing it. There's some pretty good docs on fixing the HUM, but I haven't been so motivated as yet...

Minestorm is really good. And the Multicart is great.

Take a look at Spinnerama and Tsunami tho. Those are fun, and I love using my Atari driving controller as a spinner..

As popular as Protector was (He made 100, but they sold fast), I would hope he'd consider another run, or maybe let GoodDealgames (I think that's them) produce just the cart. That way more people can enjoy that great game!!!

have fun

er.. ehm... THE VECTREX IS THE BEST GAME SYSTEM EVER MADE. I WOULD MUCH RATHER PLAY BERZERK ON VECTREX THAN FRENZY ON COLECOVISION. IT'S MUCH BETTER BECAUSE IT USES VECTORS. I WILL SACRIFICE MY FIRST BORN SON, Victorex, IN HONOR OF THE VECTREX.

How's that?

oesii told me that if I wanted to reduce the "hum" noise, put some clear shipping tape over the speaker grille in front. And it works too.

Keep posted to RGV - cause Alex is releasing Protector and YASI (with VV speech) on one glorious cart (produced by Mark Shaker).

And it's gonna happen VERY soon (me and some guys are beta testing the cart right now)

Better. But you may want to fix your caps lock button. I think it's stuck on.

Ahhh...
Good ol' speech synthesis chips.
....
Actually, it's hard to tell with Berzerk. They WANTED the monotone voice.

Forthcoming YASI (Space Invaders) will have speech when used with the VecVoice circuit! The Invaders insult you! :P :D
