I went to a flea market Saturday, and one out of every ten stalls had one of those Chinese NES all-in-one type game consoles. It's built into an N64 controller with a 9-pin plug for a Genesis type pad and a cheesy looking light gun. Has anyone else bought one of these things before? There's a cartridge slot on the bottom of the unit. The instructions said you could use carts with it, but I haven't gotten it to work with a standard NES cart. Will it work with imported Famicon carts? And is the external gamepad Genesis compatible? And is the light gun Atari compatible, or can it easily be modified to be? I thought it was pretty accurate.

This console is pretty weird. It advertises 76000 games, but it looks to have about 50 or so. It has Super Mario Bros. and Mario Bros., Duck Hunt, Contra, Tetris, 1942, Popeye, Galaga, Space Invaders, Mappy, Dig Dug, Lode Runner, Donkey Kong 2, Front Line, Millipede, Balloon Fight, Elevator Action, Bomberman, Donkey Kong Math(!), and Joust to name a few. There's even a Macross (Robotech) game on it! Then there's a bunch of truly goofy games on it too, like Magic Jewelry, Bird Week, Nuts & Milk, Binary*Land, and M.U.S.C.L.E.

I love these cheesy all-in-one consoles, but i'd like this one even better if I could run NES carts on it. Has anyone here bought one and messed around with it?

I went to one of those big "sales" they have where they go from town to town and advertise on the radio...this was like a month ago at Viking Hall in Bristol TN...they had one of those same units hooked up and playing Duck hunt, the guy told me straight up that they advertise to play carts, but they won't play standard carts...aparantly it comes with so many games and can play up to 76000 different games which would be put on a cart at a later time that you can purchase...the unit itself was $49.99 at this show...roflmao...shark sandwich.

I have one of those type things I got a couple of years ago on QVC for like $20...it's pretty fun to play.

How mauch was the one at the flea you went to? I'd like to get one if I could find one for under $20...seems to have different games on it from the first one I bought.
:D

I would be into getting something like that too. Are they actually illegal pirate copies of the games or are they hacked versions that are just "original" enough to be legal?
Do these Chinese companies do any internet sales?

Is the one below like yours? The one on the right of course :)
It uses has the gun and genesis style connector as mentioned with 76 built-in NES roms. Pretty sure the gun can't be modded for 7800 easily. Mine plays famicom games no problem, and I think it will play NES games, but don't have an NES to famicom console adapter.
I usually throw it in my suitcase for business trips in case the hotel tv has input jacks. The circuit board inside would also be a great starting point for someone building an NES portable.

I have one like the Super Joy you show there, it's good for exactly what you describe - to use on vacation. It plays a handful of games I actually enjoy playing and that's what I use it for. I think I paid less that $10 shipped for it last year off eBay.

I officially needs to gets me one of those, it'd be kick ass for a dull hotel room.

And that Dream-Tari is definitely one of the coolest things I've ever seen.

Ugh. I hate Famiclones. They're so weird. In fact, they're so weird I don't like them one bit. Besides, one fall, and the entire system is in pieces.

i have one, in fact, i prefer the gun to the NES Zapper

and my version has a lot of hack games, where they insert pokemon or TMNT into other games. most of the games on it werent released in the US, so i didnt think it was a bad deal (30 dollars)

Mine's the Super Joy 3, and it's start screen says 'Fun Time'. Every place that sold these things had them at different prices. $35, $30, $25, and $20 (which is what I paid). Some of the games have their title screens altered, some games are slightly hacked. One of the games (Donkey Kong 3 I believe) the main character sprite and DK sprite are one solid color. One thing i've noticed is that a lot of games have level selects on their main screens, like Contra.

Some of these games are just WEIRD. Badminton? Was there ever a market for a badminton game? Or Bird Week, where you play a bird collecting butterflies and feeding them to your hatchlings? And it annoys me that in the list of games, it has games like PacMan, Burgertime, Tekken, and King of Fighters, but they're different games when you select them. Mine takes me to Mappy when I select Pac Man. Tekken takes you to what looks like a really bad version of Karateka. King of Fighters takes you to Kie Ar Kung~Fu.

Now I need to locate one that has more ROMs built in. Or one that can actually play NES games through the cart port.

I have NO idea.

If I had to guess, I'd assume the bootleggers didn't spring for the ZIF socket, which should make it more reliable long-term.
But that's JUST a guess.
