Has anyone else had difficulty reaching the Digital Press web site? As of today (the 23rd of September), I haven't been able to access it. It's really frustrating!

I haven't been able to get in all day either. Maybe the server went down?

I haven't been able to get on either. Have the game rooms been Slashdotted again? 'Bout time those puppies got their own server. :P

I got this e-mail from the DP mailing list

Quote

Hello all,
you may have noticed the web site is off-line today. Never fear, our trusty
admin is working out the issue.

If you're suffering from classic gaming chit chat withdrawals, there is a
disaster recovery plan here:

http://groups.yahoo....ssicvideogames/

It takes but a few clicks to join this free Yahoo! group. The group was set up
way back in 2001 (hence the most excellent group NAME) but was never put into
action. Since the site has been off-line for most of this gaming day, this seems
like as good a time as any to launch it.

From here out, we'll use this disaster recovery group to keep you informed
should this kind of thing ever happen again.

Game ON, brothers and sisters!

There's no message list. Any reason why?

No one can get in today - if I understand correctly, the guy who owns the actual physical server is moving from one location to another, hence the downtime. It'll be back.

Earl is right, I believe Larry "known as retrogmr", he has the server. He moved this weekend. I bet it will be up and running tomorrow. Gotta say Atari Age is one nice website as well. It is nice to see so many classic gamers out here!

Later.....................

The site's back up... but the forum isn't! Santulli, why must you torment me so?

Joe posted a disaster recovery sticky that was there for days. That post contained all of the info you would need to get regular updates on the status when the site goes down. Did you bother to read that post?

I'm there at DP all the time and I've never seen that. :?

NE146 asking what a sticky is...dammit, I just got my irony meter back from the shop, and it broke again!!! :P

Next time DP comes back up, at the top of the main forum, look for the post with Peter Pepper waving his arms up and down...that's the announcement, any of the posts with the spider icons are stickies (stuck to the top of the forum)

Will do..

Hmmm... I'm thinking that since my main page is the "view posts since last visit" function (which is my MAIN DP bookmark) .. I wonder that those posts may not be showing up in that view, because quite honestly I've never seen anything mildly related to 'disaster recovery', nor any spider icons... and I cruise those forums hardcore! :|

I'll have to check it out when they're back up

I use the same bookmark and I see the spiders... :ponder:

They'll only show up when there are new posts in the sticky topics though... so wake up! You might have missed something more important, like a "ch1x w1f d1x" sticky... ;)

Or a st1cky h0t ch1x! :D

That makes sense. In that view, it's not unusual to miss a thread that doesn't get posted to much if you refresh it with a new browser view often. Just the tradeoffs I guess :)

Heh. I've met ya Matt. Seen you thrash around on a bed during the Red Eye's CGE room party while you tried desperately to remember what the three O2 Master Series games were while you screamed in agony as your mind ran through all of the videogame minutae it has stored up. (Though, I gotta admit, more than once during the trivia game, I shouted "How the f*** did you know THAT?!?" at ya.)

Weirdos, indeed. :D

That's odd, me and most of the regular users are postin' like mofo's. Not sure why you're still getting the error message. Try this direct link and see what happens:

That IS my direct link (I almost never see the rest of digitpress )

Anyway, it's not odd... the blacksoul template is missing.. If you go into your profile and try changing your background settings to it, you will get the same error message. Try it out.. heheheheheh
