I have many different joysticks from various systems that all have the 9 pin connector like an Atari stick. I know you can use these pretty much on any of the systems (CV, C64, VCS, Sega SMS and Genny) but are there any repercussions for doing so? Will I damage my C64 using CV sticks with it? Will my VCS blow out a joystick port if I use Genny pads on it?

Thanks

There are quite a few people on the board using Genny pads for their VCS (But I like my Wico, thanks CPUWIZ! :D ). As fas as the other systems I couldn't tell ya.

I'm really most concerned about my C64. Right now I have 2 Atari joysticks hooked up but I'd like to switch them out to the Wico sticks that were for the CV. I know the CV Wicos suck but I have 4 of them taking up space so I wanted to make use of them with the C64 if they are safe to use.

I don't see this being a problem - it's not like the joysticks are getting power from an external source and could thus harm the internals of the system you have them plugged in to. The only issue is whether they actually work properly on the C64 or not, and I'd say that they would. Don't worry - use them! 8)

I remember a discussion/rumor going around a few years ago about Genny pads damaging C64's, so maybe you're remembering that. I don't think anyone ever proved this or provided an example, take a look at this article and article #24 in the same database:

I think they're safe from my own experiences.

Many thanks to all! I guess I finally found a use for my extra CV Wico's :D

UPDATE:

I tried my Genny pads and got a strange reaction from my C64c. The "o" on the keyboard wouldn't work! As soon as I unhooked the Genny pad, all was well. No problem using Wico CV sticks with it so far. Wico CV sticks suck, I'm going to have to break down and buy a few more Atari sticks. Thanks again to all who responded :)
