playing around with some new xbox games today, ive come to a realization that perhaps the industry's goal or higher and higher degrees of realism has taken a wrong turn near Chris++'s house. the standard of 60fps on 3D video games is beyond what television broadcasts (for the time being). This is true most true with sports games, when im watching a game, everything isnt super fluid, there is a lot of jerkiness, and camera angles are limited. I have to admit that seeing too much of the 60fps and constantly moving camera induces slight motion sickness in me. when i first saw it with NFL2K on the dreamcast demo kiosk years ago, it was stunning, but i rarely play games in that mode for hours on end. in fact, the last game i put heavy heavy time into was Phantasy Star Online, which only ran at 30.

does anyone else feel that way? or do i need treatment?

I think they've gotten too concerned with realistic-looking games to spend time asking the little questions like "Is this game actually fun to play?"

They need to slow down, halt the FMV render farm for a bit, quit coding the lighting effects for a minute, and spend some time PLAYING their creation.

I get motion sick form new games also, that's why the GC is my last new console. Why spend money to make myself seasick? :woozy:

You said it, brother. Screw the 3D realism and bring back good games whether they be 2D or 3D. BTW, are these Xbox games actually 60FPS or 30 FPS interlaced fields?

I think modern game makers have mistaken 'good graphics' for meaning 'a high poly count, 60fps and super high resolution' rather than 'skilled drawing, creative animation and imagination'

I see game after game that features technically brilliant renderings of dull, lifeless worlds totally bereft of anything that would make me actually want to visit their creation. Case in point, Star Wars KOTOR, Enter the Matrix and Doom III - dull, dull dull - you'd think there was no imagination in the west at all.

Depends on the TV set.

The XBox CAN be hooked to a digital TV for 60Hz progressive(and even supports 720p, where as the 'Cube and PS2 only do 640p), but on a normal plain old NTSC set, it's 30Hz interlaced.

I was watching football on a TV at a local EB Games, and I couldn't tell if it wasn't a new football game running on demo. o_o I only figured it out when a commercial came on. Now, I wasn't right next to the screen, but it proves that the technology is getting there.

Before long, Coors Light will find it more profitable to buy the commercial time-outs in ESPN NFL Football or Madden 200X than to advertise on broadcast TV.

Yeah, but you don't realize you have advertising in video games already. Look at the arenas in any NHL game and you'll notice all the side art paid for by advertisers is ring authentic, in fact in some cases they had to pay the COMPANY for permission to use it instead of the other way around. And both Super Monkey Ball games are one long advertisement for Dole.

i know there is advertising in games, but those ****ing coors light ads are the absolute WORST commercials ever aired on television (high budget category). The terrible music and the picture of that dip**** mook making that face after he realizes he is in frat boy nirvana makes me vomit profusely

No argument. I'd rather watch a Keystone "bitter beer face" commercial. But Coors and the NFL go hand in hand, which is why it popped into my head. Personally I'd rather drink a Steveweiser.
