Does anyone know why the NES top loader failed? Was it because it was a re-release of a dying system? Too expensive?

I remember seeing them in Toys R Us for $25 (Man I wish I had picked up a few!)so it can't be that they were too expensive. I think it's that they were the last version oif an outdated console. The SNES had been out for a while already and had already dropped in price.

I think because the SNES was already out and Nintendo was phasing out the NES anyway, but they released the top loader for just long enough to keep the people pissed off about their toaster NES decks who weren't ready to convert yet happy.

SNES Had already been out for almost 2 years when that thing came out...

... I too remember them being like $25 or $35 at WalMart... wish I had stocked up. :(

Sega tried the same thing with the SMS 2 and Nintendo later did it again with the SNES.

I wish I'd picked up one up too. My front loader is a creaky system. :-(

I know where to get a few SNES2's, but I haven't seen a TLNES since they were being marketed. I didn't have 25 CENTS, much less 25 dollars, so it's not like I really MISSED OUT on them.

I would LIKED to have owned one, but hearing that they only did RF makes me not want one. By then we were an A/V household. RF was like... ewwww...

Still, I'd like to have one that's been modded, but I have not the cash to pay.
