Today I had a nice fun little journey.
After work I decided to go to GameStop. I knew that there would probably be no old games left. But I had to check it out.
I went in and the clerk jokingly said "No, No NES games.." So I replied "I know! I do have modern systems too, you know!"
So I looked around for a while, but I couldn't just LEAVE without buying anything. So I decided to grab a used N64 controller. Since mine are all dead or dying. I checked out and decided to check out the new EB Games.
I went in the new store and um.. it sucks. It was big and open. Too bright. Too many copies of each game. The clerk didn't even help me or ask me how I'm doing. Note I said CLERK. There was one employee in the store. And he didn't know ANYTHING about games. Where the hell did they find him? They had a TV hanging from the ceiling belting out some horrible crap they think was Music. It wasn't. It was horrible. I looked around some and just when I thought I was about to be confronted by an employee, it wasn't. It was just a friend I used to work with.
He said he loved the store because it was close, I asked if he worked there and he said No, so I knew I could badmouth it. I said, "Good. The Game Stop is much better." He begged to differ, but I knew I was right. Even though some of their prices were really REALLY low on some games. It isn't worth it to go in there just to see if a game I'd want is cheap enough.
On top of all this, they don't carry Classic games. Like I already knew, but I had to check it out.
I probably won't set foot in EB again. They're all the same. Too brightly lit, too enpty and open, nothing I'd want. Awkward experience.
So I left happily knowing I didn't have to worry about having to decide between my friends at the GS and the new EB.
I had to make a decision. Should I just go HOME? Or should I check out the place I've wanted to check out for three months? The GameStop up by the Montgomery Mall. It was about 7PM at this time. Getting dark. But I said, "Aw, hell with it." I headed up to the store.
I prepared myself for disappointment and walked in. Walked past the DVD rack and behold. There in front of me was the classic goodness I had come for! Though not as much as the other GS had (Though I had picked them over before they dumped it all.) but I looked anyway.
Everything was sorta dumped together. NES with Genesis. SNES with NES. Genesis with DC. Etc. But still grouped.
I looked it over and was amazed, shocked and SURPRISED by the over abundance of games I NEVER THOUGHT I'D FIND in a GameStop!
There was a Virtua Racing for Genesis, Samba De Amigo for DC (Though no controller and no case so I decided to pass.), THREE COPIES of Sonic 3 and a Ristar! A whole lot of games I am still surprised they had. Most still in good condition! If I hadn't already gotten Sonic 3, Ristar and Virtua Racing off eBay for cheaper than them anyway, I'd have grabbed them!
Anyway. I started in the first bin. I grabbed a few Genesis games and two DC games then moved on to the next bin. There I found a copy o Super Mario Bros. 2 IN BOX! Now I have all three games in box WITH manuals, sleeves and styrofoam inserts! They also had a Tengen Vindicators in box, a Top Gun II and some game called Castle Quest. I passed on those but if they're still there on Monday, they're mine!
So all together I grabbed Cybernoid (Used to own. But traded in. Part of "Operation Buy Back My Childhood".), Rolling Thunder (Unlicensed), and the SMB2 for NES. Pit Fighter, Space Harrier II, After Burner 2, Urban Strike, Shove It (Isn't this sorta rare or did I hear wrong?) and Road Blasters for Genesis. Then a DC "Generator Vol. 2" disc. I passed on the Samba and D2 (I think?) for DC.
I took them up to the counter, introduced myself and asked how often people buy this stuff. They said all the time. Then I asked how often they get games in. They said every Sunday they get tons of trade-in's.
I'm so happy! I can't wait until Monday!
Then on the way home I got lost (I can't navigate in the dark worth squat) and when I got here, I discovered my Marble Madness had arrived! Thanks, Redcurrie!
Edit: Oh, and apparently GameStop's have finally gotten the greenlight to sell used PS One's. Might have to look into that.
