I found a lot of Coleco games at a thrift store for $1.50 each. Can anyone advise which of the following are keepers, based on play value & quality? (I don't have a CV system yet)

-Miner 2049er (two carts: one gold label, one black & white -- both from
Micro Fun)
-Zaxxon
-Pitfall
-Space Panic
-Time Pilot
-War Games
-Mr. Do!
-Cosmic Avenger
-Lady Bug
-2010
-Gorf
-Smurf Rescue in Gargamel's Castle
-Pepper II
-Zenji
-Evolution
-Dam Busters
-The Heist
-Illusions
-Mouse Trap
-Super Action Baseball

Dude, at $1.50 apiece, those are ALL keepers - but if you don't want Zenji, 2010, Evolution, Illusions, Time Pilot and The Heist I'll take them off your hands for double the amount. :D

Hell I'll give you $5.00 for Evolution and $5.00 for Pitfall too :D

Keep 'em all. If you don't have superaction sticks Baseball isn't fully playable though.

Here's my take on them:

-Miner 2049er - Classic platformer, great game
-Zaxxon - Very good conversion of the arcade
-Pitfall - Almost the same as 2600 version
-Space Panic - Kinda like Lode Runner. Frustrating.
-Time Pilot - Arcade port, overhead view shooter
-War Games - Missile Command from overhead
-Mr. Do! - Classic maze game, arcade port
-Cosmic Avenger - Side-scrolling shooter. Classic
-Lady Bug - Very good Pac-Man ripoff
-2010 - Hard to explain, sort of a puzzle game
-Gorf - Excellent Space Invaders ripoff
-Smurf Rescue - Good side-scrolling platform game
-Pepper II - Great puzzle game, Pac-Man meets Qix
-Zenji - Strange puzzle game
-Evolution - Haven't tried this one
-Dam Busters - Haven't tried this one either
-The Heist - Maze game, pretty good
-Illusions - Bizarre maze game, great graphics, rare
-Mouse Trap - Classic maze game
-Super Action Baseball - Mediocre sports game, needs Super Action Controller

Hope that helps... for $1.50, they're all worth keeping. The only games in there that I don't like are Super Action Baseball (Sports games don't age well), Space Panic (Damn this game is hard... or maybe I just suck at it), and Illusions (This game is insanely hard to figure out). I'd still keep them if I were you though.

I don't know that I'd say Gorf was a Space Invaders ripoff since it was sort of a game in 4 parts:

- Space Invaders-type thing with a shield
- Laser blast game, a bit like Galaxian
- Another alien shooter, a bit like Gyruss
- Mother ship, kinda like the mothership phase in Condor

But yeah, keep 'em all. I'd kill to get a find like that.

You did pretty well there. All I ever find is Genesis games for $2 each (although they are boxed games and not loose).

That's certainly better than the nothin' that I find lately :(

The only remotely worthwhile thing I found in weeks was a boxed Activator for $20. I didn't bother buying it because I can't imagine I'd use it enough to justify spending that much on it.

Fair enough... I was trying to make all my summaries fit inside the message window when I was typing so that nothing would wrap. Gorf is actually one of my favorite ColecoVision games ever. I used to play this game for hours. I think the only game that got more play around my house was B.C.'s Quest For Tires.

Thanks for all the great tips, guys! I guess I'll have to find a CV unit and test out those games myself. I'm sure I'll offer about half of the carts as trades, though.

Colecovision was pretty popular on the Prairies, and I find carts every two weeks or so. There were actually about fifty CV carts in the Value Village lot that I saw, but most were dupes of "Lady Bug" and "Donkey Kong", and I didn't think it was worthwhile picking them all up. That was probably a mistake. :(

Some of those games are rarity 4 and some are rarity 5. A great score. You should be able to get some nice items for some of those games.

I regret buying the ColecoVision version of Miner 2049er, since it varies as far as some of its screen structures are concerned in comparison with the Atari 5200 and 8-bit computer versions, which I never tried until the age of game emulation. That and also the fact that it's very unforgiving. No cheats, no continues, no anything but a few extra lives that are awarded. Lose all your lives and you start back at the beginning. Besides that, though, looks like there's a great collection of games that some of them I wish I could've collected.

You should keep most if not all of the games.

Ladybug is NOT a ripoff of Pac Man. I actually consider it SUPERIOR to Pac Man in many ways.

Just to let anyone know in case they try to dismiss it. :D

But you got a great deal.

Or you could just play them in an emulator to decide which ones you like and which you don't... might be easier than finding an actual CV. I've only come across about 2 in the last 3 years.

Maybe I'll have to take a road trip to Calgary one of these days ;)

If you do, you might be returning to Winnipeg with more than you bargained for. I've really got to get rid of some of my stuff. :)

Hmm, maybe I should make a trip there the next time WWE is on tour. I've always wanted to hear a crowd mark out for Y2J and then scream "You screwed Bret!" :lolblue:

Does anyone want to trade for any of these games?

I'm keeping:

"Illusions"
"Mr. Do!"
"Miner 2049er" (one copy)

"2010" and "Pitfall" will probably be traded away; all others are up for grabs.

I'd prefer to trade, and am looking for (as always) 8-bit & Lynx carts. I'm also looking for an ST scanner and "Burgertime" for the CV.

I sugest you try out The Heist before trading it away. Its one of
my favorite CV games. Just something about that game that seems
so 8-bit about it :D

I'll trade for everything you got that I don't already have, and pay you for anything you can't find a trade for if you PM me. ;)

I just bought a CV system, and should receive it in about a week.
I'll test all games before sending them out, as I certainly don't want to trade junk. I'd appreciate it if you could PM your "want list" from the titles that I have listed, though. :)

2010: Graphic Action is a nice little underrated title. War Games is the best Missle Command clone you can ever play.

Thanks. I'll play 'em all before I trade them off, but I just don't have the room to start a CV collection. :)
