I'm really happy to be owning a Lynx now, but my Model 1 Lynx refuses to turn on. When my dad pulled it out from the trash along with some 8-bit stuff, the battery compartment had lots of acid in it. My dad cleaned it out to the best of his ability (he's very good with electronics), put in some new batteries, but it didn't turn on. Then I opened it up, looked over the system, and tested it. The batteries are putting out power, and it seems to be fine, but for some reason, it just won't turn on. Could anyone help me out?

Simple suggestions:

-Have you tried to turn it on with a game cart inserted?

-Are your game cartridges clean? (e.g. contacts dirty?)

-Have you taken a peek inside the unit to make sure that there are no loose wires/ broken connections?

1: Yes, but it still doesn't turn on.
2: The contacts are very clean.
3: I'll have to double-check.

This is often caused by a faulty power connector, try to jiggle it a little while turning it on.

Uh, I don't have an AC adapter for it. I'm using batteries.

Uh, that is not what I meant. Do it with batteries and while you turn it on, try to put some pressure on the connector.

maby your screen is cracked/dead. did you see if the screen connector is loose? maby your switch is broken. You can rig it to work w/o the switch.

One trick to force it to turn on is to connect a wire from ground to ground. In this case you could take a wire and stuck it to the minus side of the batteries.

When you touch the other end of the wire to the ground ping of the earphone-socket you will bypass the MOS-switch Q11 that is usually broken on old Lynxes. It should then turn on.

Insert a game cart before you apply power. Otherwise nothing happens.

Try it. You don't have much to loose.

The screen isn't cracked. Like I said before, everything seems to be fine.

Listen to Karri, if that doesn't work, throw it away.

If you decide to throw it away, I would gladly pay shipping and handling for it. I need the spare parts. Good-luck getting it to work.

I have a semi-working lynx 2 (board only), that you can have for the price of shipping. It powers up but there is no picture and the sound is just white noise.

Hi Mitch,

Does it still have the button membranes and the plastic clips to hold them to the board? If it does, then I am interested. Send me a PM.

Thanks,
Rob

No, it's just the main system board. Sorry.

Never mind. When I took apart, I still didn't find anything wrong. But then when I popped in Zarlor Mercenary, it worked! Now I gotta find more games... :D
