I should be getting my Vectrex system in the mail tuesday. I have never played a Vectrex before so i'm very excided for it to arrive :) . Can someone tell me good sites to buy new games for the Vectrex? I only know of one site, Classic Gaming Creations. I heard Protector was released but only in a small production run of 100. Is there anyway to still get Protector? Thanks yall!

Congrats on your new acquisition. You'll love it, trust me. I don't know about getting protector anymore (worth getting if you can find it though) but one of the best purchases you can make is a multi-cart from Sean Kelly. You can get the info here. If you're looking for the original carts eBay may be you're best option. A few sellers occasionally have some carts but not many. Here are some that have Vectrex games that I've dealt with in the past (although not for vectrex items).

Hope that helps.

There is one vectrex cart that I use all the time .. The Vectrex RAMcart .. but you have to have your Vecrex near your PC or laptop. I use it with my palmtop!

Best place to ask questions about the Vectrex: Rec.Games.Vectrex newsgroup.

Protector / YASI 2 game cart is being beta tested right now and to be released soon.

A new Protector is being released? :blink blink:

I'm obviously WAY out of touch with newsgroups these days. :P

Well it'll be one way for people who missed out on the original release of Protector to get some sort of copy. Is it going to be limited edition again though? As I'd be after YASI either way...

Probably better idea ;)

Will the new cart have the memory to remember the high scores though?

Yup! Protector will save the high scores. I don't think he is doing the same for YASI.

Welcome to Vectrex! You'll definitely enjoy it. It's the single most unique home video game console ever released, and it had some pretty good games, too. (Great conversinos of old Cinematronics arcade titles, too) Collecting for the machine can be a little pricey sometimes (the Vectrex has a high collector's value, as do the games, especially if they come complete with overlays and manuals) but ultimately it can be worthwhile. For games, I tend to browse around eBay. Again, it can get pricey, but sometimes, if you're patient -- and lucky -- you can walk away with a good deal. :-)

I've only seen one protector ever on eBay, I believe it was McGrail00007's (from here). I don't remember what it went for but you could probably ask him. Since it was such a limited run and the normal vectrex collector holds on to just about everything unique I don't know if you'll see many more.

I had it listed on eBay, but I cancelled all bids and ended the auction. I had too many people upset with me and therefore I will not be doing that again. It is not the only one that has ever been listed. Here is a picture of the game.

Well I would hope so seeing as it was only released a few months back ;)

But Alex only made 100 (I got #47 I believe) and that was that. The demand was staggering and I would expect any that ever made it to eBay to go for a lot. Until this 2 game cart comes out ;)

If it's a constant hum then it's pretty much normal. If it's other sounds (pops, gurgles, etc) then something may be wrong or the volume knob is dirty. If you search the web you can find a few fixes to reduce (not quite eliminate) the hum by moving & shielding a few of the wires and componants. I haven't bothered do do it because after 5 min it doesn't really bother me any more.

The hum is a little irritating but you don't notice it when you're playing - at least, it's not bothersome enough to me to bother with the shielding hack.

I have noticed however that the image on my Vectrex does waver a little bit ... don't know if it's normal or not but again, it's not so pronounced that you really notice it all that much.
