i wanted to copy some atari floppies to my pc with the sio2pc interface, so i connected my pc to the atari and to my 1050. my 1050 is device #2 and i boot dos 2.0 from the pc(others make no difference with copying). then i load EMPTY.ATR in the pc and choose for P -physical file acces. on the atari i choose format and EMPTY.ATR gets formatted.

Then i want to duplicate a disk, and the 1050 starts to load, and then the pc starts writing sectors, but after +/- 20 sectors have been written, i hear the sound when you start your atari and get in basic.
then i get a error - 138 at my atari.
So i tried to write dos files to the empty disk, doesn't work, make the 1050 device #1....and on. been trying now for 3 hours everything but it won't work.

copy a disk from pc to the 1050 works.

and if I choose in menu for C - create atari disk image - and then select SD 92K i can't format it or write to it..how can i do that ?-make it like a physical disk ?

any help would be great, my floppies are rotting.

If your copying unprotected program/disks to the PC, all you have to do is pretend that your "virtual" drive on the PC is a real disk drive. Use whatever standard DOS you normally use on the ATARI, selecting to format drive 1 (the virtaul drive on the PC), the Atari DOS will format it just as if it were a real 1050 drive. then use the copy command to copy your disk/files from drive 2 (the real 1050) to drive 1 (the virtual 1050). It works EXACTLY like a using two real drives. The only difference is that you MUST have the virtual D1: drive mounted with an empty .atr disk image (this is done with the A.P.E program; if your using some software besides A.P.E on the PC side, don't. GET A.P.E! The other(s) suck). If your trying to copy commercial, original disks to the PC, then you have to use the .PRO system program that is incorporated into the A.P.E program. There is no other way.A.P.E-the only way to go! For Ms-DOS or Windows!

You also want to make sur ethe 'turbo' mode is off in SIO2PC, I've sometimes had issues with that.

I never needed the '-p' command when using SIO2PC and have copied maby disks. Just 'L' disk image and I think that will work.

All your disks may not be bad, make sure they are in a density your drive can read (they might be in double density or something).

Also pretty much all Atari disks, even ones that are unreadable can be recovered with some special effort.

Protected disks are a special case, probably not appropriate for me to recommend what program to use but they do exist.

Cracked copies of most titles are out there too in case you cant recover a disk at all.
