I am wondering if anyone can reccomend a NES site that is really good? I really like the amount of information I have gathered from AtariAge, and I would like to find something comparable for NES.

Your help is appreciated!

Would be nice if it were finished.

And remember, feel free to contact me about the SNES Tester.

What I would like to see PlayNintendo become is an AtariAge for the Nintendo world.

But for that to happen, they need to add some content.

I'd be happy to help in any way I can.

PlayNintendo.com has potential. Its too bad the forums only get a few posts a day. Maybe in time, it will be busier there.

There's a lot more to AtariAge.com than the forums... and it's that other stuff that REALLY makes this site so indispensable. (Not that I don't appreciate the forums, as my 3000+ posts will attest.)

I look forward to the day PlayNintendo.com is the resource for Nintendo fans that this site has become for Atari fans...

:ponder:

Hey Albert, how many hours would you say went into putting this site together?

;)

PlayNintendo.com's forum are kinda funky...

Since they are my forums I will be the first to admit that I need to fix a couple of things. However, sometimes there will only be a couple of posts in a day and other times there will be lots. Seems to run hot and cold.

As for site content, I have been adding stuff everyday since the new look went up. Expect to see a lot more content in the NES section and fixed message boards on October 5.

For a site with more active message boards you could check out http://www.nesworld.com. I generally like the site and the forums are usually more active than mine.... but it is no AtariAge.

Don't get the wrong idea... I wasn't criticizing you. I know it's a work in progress.

Let's all remember that the Als have put in countless hours over a period of YEARS to get this site to where it is today. And a large forum community doesn't just spring up overnight. I think the fact that so many people who are probably bigger NES fans that Atari fans are regulars here shows that this is kind of THE classic gaming forums site out there. I'm sure the community can handle more than one... but I doubt if any others are going to hit the critical mass AA has gotten to... at least not for several years.

I didn't get the wrong idea at all. :) The Forums have been up since March (If you don't count the time I accidentally deleted everything) and we are now at 105 members. I am actually kinda surprised it is that high... I said to mself if I get 10 people a month over the first year, I would consider the forums succesful. Looks like we are well on track to do that.

PlayNintendo.com is a big work in progress. My main problems are time and personal stuff. I was real sick for almost half the summer... no work got done then, I also just had a ton of stuff going on then... got to stressed out and got sick. (not fun)

On the plus side, lately I have had a ton of time. I have been a scanning fool! The scanner has been working over time... I pretty much have my entire personal library scanned in, look for all that to go up on the site next week.

Beyond that, I will have to go out and start buying more games and start relying on good natured folks to send in scans of their own stuff. :) The only depressing thing is that I have already used 36% of my 250 megs of server space... and the site is not even close to being complete. I will have to upgrade to a dedicated server or something at some point. Hopefully, by time that happens, I will get the occassional check from banner ads and the store will be operational to help offset the costs.

Yeah... 250 MB isn't going to get you too far, especially once the forums pick up pace.

Hey Al, how many GIGABYTES are the forums here now?

Mark, I do appreciate what you have accomplished so far.

However, you should start outsourcing help on the site if you want to see it come to fruition in less time.

I'm sure there are folks who can help you out quite a bit if you should need it.

I wish I had a cheap scanner cuz I can do box/cart scans if I did.

Also, the NES community needs a better rarity guide. I'm sure you would have to spend hours on EBay and trade groups looking at prices of each individual game and then looking at production runs and label variations and unlicensed games. This would require hours of research. You can do it though.

Do you have any Camerica games in your personal collection? As I said, I'm only a cheap scanner away from being able t help you out with scans. The Salvation Army around here tends to get scanners and I'm sure with some repair and investment, I could definitely scan stuff.

I dunno. Just some thoughts.

I doubt it that the NES will ever outpace Atari when it comes to popularity among classic gamers. They are both equals in my opinion.

All good things Kepone.

Room 34 - The last time I asked Albert about AtariAge, I believe he said the site is over 2 gig and the forums were almost 300 meg. Don't quote me, but I think that is what he said.

As you can imagine, my jaw immediately dropped. I then contacted my host to see if a site of that size was even a possibility. I was assured I could be accomodated to upwards of 10 gig. Nice to know. :)
