What were the differences, if any, between the Genesis oversized VR cart and the 32X version?

Speed? Graphics? Extra features?

the frame rate was a tad better on the 32x version, and it had 5 tracks and three different types of cars.

And there is definitely a graphic difference. Naturally, the Genesis version looks noticeably crappier after playing the much smoother 32x version. But both are nifty :)

I have the Genesis version and it's very impressive. I'd love to see how the 32X one looks. Or feels. Hopefully soon.

Are the graphics improved any? Less pop-up? Any texturing?

Good Lord the difference is night and day!

32X has better geometry and backgrounds.

The 32X has a much richer color palette (32X has 32,000 color capability) while the Genny SVP cart is stuck at 64, the Genesis' limitation. This really matters when using the first person camera, which is not very nice on the Genny version.

32X has far better sound FX. It also has a very smooth frame rate -- Genesis SVP version is a little too choppy.

And as mentioned, you get 2 extra tracks in the 32X version, and these are good tracks. You can race the 5 tracks in reverse which makes 10 great tracks to learn.

I haven't played the 32x version, but as mentioned, it's probably better. However, the Genesis port is a very unique and fun game. I love it when non-3D system do (or try to do) 3D. Too bad they didn't use the same sort of chip for the Genesis port of Virtua Fighter 2. THAT would've rocked.

There are about 3 games I'd even get a 32X to play. DOOM (Gotta play DOOM. Gotta play every incarnation ever made!!!), Virtua Racing (Deluxe?) and Virtua Fighter.

Now. On the VGMuseum site, they only have shots of "Virtua Racing Deluxe". Is this the one we're talking about? Because the shots really do look awesome. Well, a ton better than the Genny version.

Also, I am now seeing there was a Saturn version? Is this true? And what was it like? There are no shots of this one on the VG site.

There are very few other reasons to own one. Maybe "Shadow Squadron" but it gets pretty repetitive after a while.

The 32X also had these good games: Space Harrier, After Burner, Mortal Kombat II, NBA Jam (if you care about that one at all), and Star Wars Arcade.

then you have Knuckles Chaotix, Zaxxon Motherbase 2000, and Kolibri, which were interesting, but lacked in a couple of areas. If you see them cheap, by all means pick them up

Im still looking for a copy of World Series Baseball for the 32X. I LOVED the Genny version, and would like to see if they did anything else for the game on the 32X.

oh, and Virtua Racing for the Saturn was done by Time Warner Interactive not sega, its kindof crappy, and the load times suck.

Didn't like it on the 32X. Genny versions were pretty nice but the 32X one offered few improvements in the graphics department and the game play was worse. I liked 32X "RBI Baseball" much more.

Chris is being nice here. The Saturn version of "Virtua Racing" downright sucked!

Triva: Virtua Racing for the Genesis was the most expensive Genesis cart made with a MSRP at $110

At the beginning of this summer, I found the Virtua Racing cart and the Virtua Racing Deluxe cart.

Has anyone else noticed that the Virtua Racing cartridge doesn't work in the 32x? I plugged it in, and got a black screen. I unplugged the 32x, stuck VR in my genesis and found that it works perfectly.

Anybody else have this happen/ know why this happens?

(I don't know if this was mentioned, but I believe that VR deluxe also has additional tracks)

I would wager a guess it has SOMETHING to do with all the extra chips they had to put in it.
