Ok, I have a little money. I was wondering which system to get, a 7800 or a nes. I want it for mainly games, but collecting as well. I dont really care about graphics or sound, just gameplay. A person has offered me a

7800 with:
original packaging

Asteroids Hat Trick
Ballblazer Mario Bros.
Barnyard Blaster Meltdown
Centipede Ms. Pac Man
Choplifter Pete Rose Baseball
Crack'ed Pole Position 2
Crossbow Realsports Baseball
Donkey Kong Robotron 2084
Donkey Kong Jr. Touchdown Football
Double Dragon Tower Toppler
Galaga Xevious

for $75

So which one should I get, a 7800 or nes?

Thanks for the help,
VANMAN

That's a VERY reasonably priced 7800 lot. You should go for that, simply because you won't likely have a chance at another setup like that again. Conversely, NES's are a dime a dozen and games are dirt cheap and everywhere.

That is indeed a very nice offer. I'd take it, and then get an NES later. If you have to choose, I'd say get an NES. It has the advantage in games, sound, and (depsite being the weaker system) graphics. Not to mention controllers :) .

Ok, so I will first get the 7800. There goes all my money. Next, do you know anyone who sells NES's dirt cheap? What about NES carts? Thanks.

I am always partial to Nintendo, but collect for the 7800 as well. That is a sweet deal. Pick-up the 7800, but promise me you will get an NES later. :P

I will get a nes later, provided I find one cheap. Right now I will get a 7800. Its good that it also plays 2600 games too, because some of those KICK ASS. But a nes is next on the list.

Get the 7800. Even though I'm no fan of the system. NES's are a dime a dozen, I've even seen them in trashcans (never taken any though, but thats how I scored my Legend of Zelda cart) where I've only ever seen a 7800 at 4jays.
Don't even bother with a Master System, just get an old Genesis, and get the Master System adaptor for it.

I'd rather not do that, because I've heard some games are incompatible on the PBC.

It's the other way around, really. You'll get more compatibility with the Power Base Converter than you will with an actual Master System console. This includes many foreign releases that are supposedly incompatible with US systems. In fact I've yet to get a game, US or foreign, that hasn't played on my PBC. I'm getting a nice collection of foreign releases, too! 8)

(PS – Not really meaning to be a nit-picker here but aren’t picture sigs generally frowned upon on AA?)

They are. And you're right. The PBC enables me to play The New Zealand Story, which doesn't work right on a regular US SMS. Oddly it's the _only_ SMS import game I have so far that doesn't.

I don't have my SMS hooked up at the moment; I'm only using the PBC. I have "Ms Pac-Man", "Crash Dummies", and "California Games II", all of which Andrew Kreig's list says won't play on a US system and all of which work fine on my PBC. Flash, do you have any of those and if so do they work on your regular SMS?

Crash Dummies did. I don't have Ms. Pac-Man or California Games II, so I can't report back on those.

I’m thinking that Andrew’s list isn’t quite as accurate as I once took it to be. Perhaps I should take a stab at some Codemasters titles after all (i.e. – Micro Machines).

ONE.
F-16 Fighting Falcon doesn't work, because it's the only game in existence to use every pin on the card connector.
