My 800XL has been acting really strange lately. Whenever I turn it on, it makes a loud buzz and the screen shows nothing but red and purple lines and static. Could it be my power supply, or has the computer gone kaput?

It could very well be your power supply. They are not known for being the most robust. Do you have the solid black brick with no vents on it?

My guess is it's toast, especially if you're hearing a loud buzz. I've thrown 3 or 4 of those away myself (they're filled with epoxy and cannot be fixed). The cheapest solution I know of is to get a 5V supply from BG-Micro (www.bgmicro.com). Get either PWR1141 5V 1.2A ($5.95) or PWR1143 5V 2.4A ($6.95) and splice your old DIN connector onto it.

Nah, I got my eye on a great looking 65XE on eBay instead. Also, I do have another 8-bit power supply that used to go to my 600XL, but I don't know where it is at the moment.

Too late, I lost the auction. Now I'm gonna hunt down my 600XL's power supply.

I just meant buying a whole new system would be better than rigging up a new supply, just in case the 800XL is fried.
