Operation Wolf. I loved how you could just sit their and shoot things. Once in a while picking up clips and over items. Funny part is that after years of playing that game from my child hood. I didn't become violent and gun anybody down with an uzi.

Laters........

Raiden, Raiden II and Atari Games/Namco's Assualt.

Going old school, Tempest, Galaga, Centipede, Millipede, Defender, Stargate, 1942/43, Vanguard, Star Wars and Time Pilot.

Wish I could try some of the new Raiden games, but they only show up in Japan these days.

If you mean first person shooters, I'm kinda partial to Crossbow or Hit N' Miss. Those are getting the most action on my MAME.

Dangun Feveron. Its really obscure.. best game youve never played. A shooter with a 1970s disco theme! The music is a blast to say the least, and makes you get really INTO the game.

For gun games, I like Chiller because I'm a sick bastard. Also Turkey Shoot was a classic, it was stuffed with turkey feathers which flew out of the machine when you hit a high score. I never did it. The Operation Wolf and later era all felt the same. It was time for pistols. Area 51 got a lot of play. There's one I played last year which sensed where you stood, you had to duck behind barricades then jump out and shoot. It was amazing.

For conventional shooters, Tempest rules all. Robotron would be the quintessential shooter, except you have to save that idiot family. In Tempest, everything you see is evil and must be killed.

I'll list 5 in dated order of release, to correspond to passing years

Tempest, Blasteroids, Stun Runner, Raiden 2, Star Wars Trilogy

but there really is a lot others that I could think of too
