Anyone know why sega geneis EA sports carts are larger (physically) than other carts?
I haven't seen a lot of genesis carts, so maybe more are large like this?

Most EA carts (not only the sports) are larger, its just their thing. Most of the other companies carts that are bigger or odd shaped are unlicensed games.

EA released a couple of games unlicensed to leverage a better deal with sega. They kept their own casings though after they got the license

accolade did the same thing, then there are the unlicensed games from codemasters and other lesser companies.

I've always liked how the ea carts were easier to grip when removing.

Oh, I forgot about that one! I gotta find one of those!

Though, I can't help think that wouldn't the extra weight on the cart make the cart jiggle and cause it to freeze/shut off? I mean, every other Genny cart I have does that in every Genesis I have. Including the Nomad.

It's funny and strange how they came up with the idea to put the ports in the cart instead of say, including a coupon for a few bucks off a multi-tap device. But it sure is damn cool.

There was something of a big dispute between Sega and EA about multiplayer adapters.

IIRC ,I think Tengen(with Gauntlet 4) or some company made it so their games were compatible with both taps.

Anyway, don't forget, the Codemasters games have the funky rounded Bishop hat topped games. I have the Micro Machines game, and I've seen there's another game by them in the same odd case. I don't like it because there's no darn darn label on top. But right now it's the only one I have. Still.

And the most known, the Sonic and Knuckles cart.

Then there's the Virtua Racing cart.

I always thought the EA carts were longer and skinier so they could fit into Pal Mega Drive machines? You know, the sides cut off would allow it to fit universally so they didn't have to make multiple carts. At least, that's what I heard.

I also have one of those carts with two controller ports on the cart, I thought it was a cool Idea, and it never gave me any problems. May just be I was lucky though, the few times we actually had it set up and played four player games.
