This is a follow up to my topic about the SMS I picked up.

So far, it will not boot up 2 games that I have. The title screen will come on and I can play the maze game. However, I have 2 cartridges, Rocky and Double Dragon and neither of them will boot up. I've tried cleaning the cartridge port and the carts themselves with a bit of rubbing alcohol. This has proven to be fruitless. Does anyone think that I got ripped off for $40?

I'm gonna call the place where I got it from and hopefully, I can get my money back to buy another SMS on EBay or here. Unless they can get it to work.

I'm very disappointed and frustrated as hell. I didn't post this in Hardware because I wasn't sure if anyone actually reads that forum.

try cleaning the contacts inside the system

also when you insert the cart, pull it out just slightly, this will tighten up loose connectors

I've tried cleaning the contacts inside of the cartridge slot if that's what you mean. The results are that I get a green screen when trying to boot up Double Dragon. I've cleaned the contacts on it several times.

I remember the guy saying that the system would require a lot of cleaning but I can't remember because the store was crowded with loudmouthed idiots arguing over games they were trying to sell.. :x

Try opening the carts (philips screwdriver, IIRC) and clean the contacts with a pink pencil eraser real good. Sometimes alcohol alone is not enough to clean years of built-up crap.
