Hi All,

I am having problems modifying my Supercharger to use 2 and 4K games. I consider myself at a marginal skill level of soldering and can't seem to solder the wire to the chip pins of the 74HCT32. Is there another way of attaching the wires to the pins? Maybe some type of clip or something? I would be willing to pay someone to solder these leads to the chip (I can solder the other ends to the board). Let me know if you are interested or have ideas.

Thanks,
starfighter1314

It might be easier to add wires to the backside of the board, the solder's already there.

If you'd rather solder the front, try tinning. Heat the wire and add solder to the wire. Then heat the pin of the chip and add solder to it. Finally heat the pin and put the tinned wire on it.

I'd be willing to help you out - I've done tons of soldering and successfully modded my Supercharger the way you want yours. I have a Weller temperature-controllable station. You'd be stuck paying for shipping both ways and I can't guarantee that it will work when you get it back, though. (Sorry - usual legaleese.) Hopefully you haven't heated up any of the chips pins too much...the 7432 is easily replacable if damaged, of course... ;)

I did the modification too. All you need to do is melt some solder onto the wire and then onto the chip leg, then melt the two seperate globs of solder together.

It isn't too hard but having the chip flying around doesn't help either. Try taping it down while you are soldering it.

@Susuwatari - there is no solder on the back of the board, because the chip you have to add is just floating around and not connected to the board. It is akward to solder like that, but if you just put the solder on the two seperate parts and then simply melt it together, it works okay.

Thanks for all the good advice. I'll try the method of melting solder on the wire and chip separately. If I can't get it to work, I'll probably follow up with someone who responded to my post (and pay to have it done). If any of you are located in the Portland, OR or Honolulu, HI areas and can do the mod, please email me.

Thanks!

BTW: How do you open that SC case without destroying anything?

There are a couple of little plastic pins, but they don't matter much. If you are careful, nothing breaks except for the label over the screw.

And to put that switch in I needed to cut the corner of the circuit board off about 1/4 of an inch.

and there are 7 wires and a switch that need to be soldered. (Pretty small work) And a trace needs to be cut on the board.

You remove the label, unscrew the case and open it. :P

Ok, how to I remove the label without destroying it. And how do I attach it again?

Heatgun, the glue will stay on the sticker and you can just put it back on.

It really isn't a rare piece of equipment, so why would a 1/8 inch hole in the label matter that much?

Who cares if it's rare, hole = sloppy. :P

Sounds easy enough.

Well, I have never seen a SC before I got this one from CPUWIZ. So I suppose they are quite rare in Germany.

Good luck. They are a great development tool (for things under 6k) And I have about 300 or so roms that play thru it from the computer ;) So for me it instantly expanded my game library by a lot.

I have been wanting a Cuttle Cart for a long time. (64k) And if I do find one, I don't have a job, so I couldn't buy it anyway. (200-250 dollars)

I didn't have any trouble getting the label off, it just popped right off cuz the glue had dried out or something. I just got to remember where the label is when I do get around to reglueing them on.

Regarding the label, Lee Kruger sent me a replacement label of his own design with his Worship the Woodgrain CDs which I happily used to replace my original. I don't know if he still does this or not, but I would bet that one could make/get a replacement label...
