Not another portable Atari 2600!!! :x Oh yes, I too would like to create one. :D If you would like to then please answer these following questions.

1. Sega GameGear Design (Horizontal)?/ Nintendo GameBoy Design(Vertical)?
2. Top load game (Nintendo Gameboy)/ push up to load(flip game over when compared to gameboy)?
3. Screw on controls for d-pad, joystick, paddle controls?

If I can do this then I would like to shoot for a price rang no higher than $260. Let me know what you all think.

I don't think the market for them is big enough to where we need competition between developers.

@CPU - I like your 'seasonal avatar' :)

I plan to do both. Create a few games and design a portable Atari 2600. I will have some time off for a few weeks so I will be working on a game. As far as the portable Atari I will be designing that frequently also. I am thinking about calling it Phoenix. How does that sound? As far as the competition there isn't really any. Some people sell there's for$300 or $400, and then others promise systems, but never deliver. I would like to change all that.

I think you need to consider some serious project planning. Dont do looks just jet, start by making a really really small 2600 circuit board (or make a 2600 on a chip, very difficult). After that, start gathering parts and pieces, and THEN design the case, with all tried and tested parts and pieces in mind/place.

I plan on looking into what is required ot make a small Atari board. I may do the chop and dice method that Ben Heckendorn uses. I will just keep in mind what kind of designs are best to understand how small I have to make the unit. I was reading on Ben's site and I noticed that he mentioned something on there about the Phoenix, so I am looking for a new title for the portable. I am open to suggestions.

A 2600 on a chip... how about running an emulator on a chip, taking the rom input from a cart slot?

Heh but that would be breaking the tradition of using female secretary's name for the project. Any regular females here?
