I picked up a TI99 and 19 games today but it had no TV connection cable. Does anyone have one to sell or trade for or is there another way to hook this thing up? Oddly enough, I found a power supply for it at a totally separate store....

Thanks,
Laura

Thanks to all for the instructions to make one of these. Just a question...is Radio Shack good for anything other than selling RC cars? I went in looking for a DIN5 connector so I could make one and no luck. I'm 0 for 2 with Radio Shack having the parts that I need. Nada at the computer store that they sent me to; from the look that I got when I asked for a DIN5, you would have thought I asked if they had slide rules. :) Looks like a computer-cable-bin-diving trip to a thrift store is in my future.

Strange! That's where I always got my connectors (tell them it's the same connectors to rewire the end to a CB radio microphone, maybe it'll help :))

I have an old IBM pc keyboard (I think from either a 386 or 486)

I don't know if this will work or not, someone from here will have to say if a keyboard wire will work for video.

We searched that (CB radio) bin of connectors and nothing. This is a new Radio Shack; I probably need to hit one that has been around for a while and still has old stock. (Those drawers that they have are divided into numerous bins and that one only had a couple of bins. From the pictures on the outside, those looked to be the most likely but no luck.) I saw the later posts about a keyboard cable. I just gave about 4 keyboards (that were going to be thrown away at my office) to Goodwill a few months ago...doooohhh! :) Thanks for the idea of looking at keyboards; this thrift that I go to has a pile of those as well as cables so I'm bound to run across one soon. I just hope that after all of this, the TI actually works!

I've picked up a DIN 5 from Fry's if you still need one, I also dug up a real TI RF switch box, dunno if it works though. :)

My experience with RadioShack is:

99% of the time, they don't carry it.

If they do carry it, then there's 99% chance the peg will be empty. :x

Yeah, Radio Shack is only worried about new technology...
Anytime I need something, they don't know what I'm talking about...

I might take you up on that if I can't figure out what to do with this one that I just clipped off an old keyboard. Thanks for taking the time to do that! Is there any way to figure out which wire goes to which pin or do I have to figure out how to totally mangle this thing and get all of the plastic off to get to the back side of the connector? :?

if you have a volt meter you can check continuity from pin to wire...should not be hard to do.

I do have a voltmeter. Can you give Captain Biologist (who is just getting over her fear of electricity) a few more details and I'll give it a shot? Thanks. ;)

For the record, I have no idea why I was scared of electricity as I haven't been informed of any childhood episode that could be linked to. On another note, I've always hated goats and had no idea why until I mentioned it to my Mom last year and she filled me in on a petting zoo visit gone bad that I had as a toddler..... :D

here is a quick ref. pic that might help...

do you have a digital meter or an analog?

a lot of the digitals will "beep", if you have one of those it's very easy to check.

Mine is digital but doesn't beep. I was about to ask you which of the settings (ACV, DCV, etc.) it needed to be set on (trust me, college physics lab was WAY too long ago) but I noticed in the website address it said "ohmmeter" so that cleared it up. So far, we're at black-Pin 4 and red-Pin 2. Yeehaw and thanks!

Okay, I have a picture on my TV albeit garbled. Now I have to figure out what the problem is.....it just appears to be an intro screen. Does anyone know what you need to do to make it play a game cartridge?

when you put the game in and turn it on you should have the option to play the game or go to basic.

It's a press one key or the other sorta thing.
