http://www.redoctane...mejoystick.html

I have not seen either of these before, but I was searching for a good Xbox MAME controller and found them.

I was going to order just the Xbox Controller and they have a Holiday deal where you get free shipping on orders over $40...well the Xbox controller is 8 pounds and the shipping came to $9 or so and that would bring the total up to about $40 shipping included...so I picked up the Atari joystick for $17 as well...which made my order over $40 and free shipping! So for $47.95 total I got the Xbox controller and the Atari game pack...which is a great price I think...I can't find another Xbox controller like this for under $149.

I don't know if they will both turn out to be crap or not but it seems to be good quality stuff - the do it yourself arcade stick is all HAAP parts so it might actually be a decent purchase...for $50 I was willing to take a shot.

Anyone else know anything about this Activision/Atari joystick? This doesn't seem to be the 10-in-1 crap that is floating around. I've never seen one before myself.

Anyway- figured I would share!

They also have PSX controllers like this that should work with the redemption controller I would think? not sure?
Might finally be a good priced solution to MAME quality controllers?

I'll let you know how it is when I get mine.

Must... buy... now.

It comes with 30 Activision games! Cool!!! Question: Will this USB stick work with Stella and MAME?

What's really cool is the red color. My old yellow trimmed stick wore off, so I took some of my mom's red nail polish and re-colored it. It looked *exactly* like that!

No reason it shouldnt work with MAME. I thought of buying an X-Box and modding it, to use for a MAME cabinet I plan on building, but I need trackball input. Luckily, my dad is gonna give me his old computer (runs at almost a gig, but needs a better video card) to build a mame cabinet.

I've been thinking about modding a joystick to work with USB, but this seems a heck of a lot easier. I just placed my order. Too bad i'm not going to use the software. PC only. I just want the Atari 2600 USB joystick!

Ok...

Ya know, a majority of people in the USA are RIGHT handed. Used to be joySTICKS were built with that in mind. Stick on the right and buttons on the left. The way a right handed person needs the f--king thing.

Then the joypad craze hit. Fine, whatever. Even for a right handed person, a joyPAD is easy as hell to use with your left hand.

A joyPAD and a joySTICK are not the same thing and do not play the same way.

LEFT HANDED JOYSTICKS SUCK FOR RIGHT HANDED PEOPLE!!!

Back in the old days of the arcade, most games were set up for right handed people. Just a hand full like Donkey Kong were stupid left handed crap. And atleast in the arcade you could just lay your arm across over the stick, and get yourself into a pseudo right-handed configuration. Can't so that with one of these console controllers.

This has annoyed the crap outta me for years now.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!

Stupid f--king godd--ned left handed crap! I want my stick on the right side of the buttons you f---'ing moronic accessory makers! Jesus H F---ing Christ! Try knowing your market.

you could always open the thing up and reverse the terminal leads if it bugs you that much?

Are they actually manufacturing the CX-40 style usb controller? I tried to find other ones like that on the web and I couldn't. I'd like to try it out.

Well, I can't wait to hear your review. Now they need to make USB paddle controllers for Kaboom! and USB intellivision controllers.

That's assuming the stick and all the buttons are seperate items connected to the circuit board via wires. Then YES, that could be done.

I have seen quite a few cheap sticks where the entire button assembly is intergrated into the circuit board. Which require a lot of fine trace cutting & jumpering on the board. Not fun, not easy.

Then depending on the physical design, the layout of the buttons may not work well in a rotated configuration. Luckly, the stick shown in the link of this thread has a generic button layout and could work either way. Many sticks however (all ergonomic sticks for example) don't lend themselfs to right-handed modification, unless you want to remold the case too.

Not to mention thats not the point. It simply makes absolutly no sence to me that in a country where the majority of the population is right-handed, you can't find a right-handed joystick. WTF!

You could always build your own. Just flip the top plate over to make it right-handed.

Ok...I got both the XBOX and the Atari USB controller in today and all I can say is "HOLY SHIT!!!!!"

I just played Pac Man on the Xbox and this is the ONLY way to fly! For the price you can't beat it! Go order both of these right now and I promise you it will be the best $50 you ever spend! I can not say enough good things about either.

The Xbox controller has authentic arcade buttons and and stick and it "feels" like it should, it's just like playing Pac Man at the arcade! Finally!

The Atari USB stick "feels" just like a regular Atari stick, no difference in response orplay that I can tell...plug N play right out of the box. And yes it seems this guy is having these custom make...even without the Activision Action pack (which is included) this is an awesome deal!

For less than $50 total delivered, you can't go wrong...to be honest I'm shocked! I can't remember the last time I ordered something and felt like I got a great deal...I would easily pay $150 for this same set up.

Here are the inside pics of the Atari joystick...figured you guys would want to check it out and of course I had to rip into it to have a look inside.

I'm happy! :D

I don't know much about PC joysticks, so this may be a silly question. Do you have to load a driver or anything to use the cx-40 style usb joystick or is it simply plug and play? Will it work with any 2600 emulators?

i'm working on what works and what doesn't.

If you use Xbox it works with z26x using a usb adapter on the xbox, if you are using just z26 or stella i don't think either one of those supports usb controllers or if so I can't figure out how to get them to work?

I checked it in my control panel and the PC is seing it perfect, but the emu's don't? Perhaps they will add USB support soon?

I'll keep looking at what works and what doesn't and post more later.

Thanks for the up-date! I wonder if it will work with that new collection of 80 Atari games?

i would imagine so...I am going to try to pick up a copy of that this weekend if i can find it around here...the activision game pack doesn't want to work on my 2000 pro box, which is not a great big surprise....so I'll have to load up a 98 box to try that out on...

?????? How would that help? All the arcade buttons are on the RIGHT side of the box. It's built backwards.

I too am annoyed with all the left-handed stuff. I want my dominant hand to be controlling the little character on screen.

I have to agree with that. How did the left handed perspective on joysticks ever take over in the first place?

I haven't gotten my Atari USB stick in yet. :( When it comes in, i'll have to use a program called USB Overdrive to configure it to the arrow keys/space bar. I've already got it installed, now i'm just waiting for delivery........

well if you reverse the contacts you can turn it upside down and then it would be on the other side.

Is there a PC program that works like that, if so it would probably solve the no usb support problem for the current emu's

Just played PacMan on PC NES emu with the Atari USB stick...worked ok...movement was a little hard to manage, no more so than would be expected.
