Dead Telegames II

I'm getting 8V output, 5V input on the voltage regulator. Is there anything else I can check to see what is wrong with this Telegames II unit (Atari 2800 clone)

I'm getting no output on Channel 2/3, the Telegames II is receiving power OK (LED's light up)

One dirty contact inside the cart slot will bring down the whole machine, check that first. :)

Whats the best way to clean this? I don't think the cover of the cart slot can be removed easily, can it?

8v output, 5v input? I think you got that backward or your Teglegames is fried. Input is pin 1 of the regulator (left pin when looking at the front of the regulator), ground is middle pin and output is right pin (pin 3)

yeah I had that backwards, its 8 Volt Input, 5 Volt output

I can check the cart slot contacts, what values are expected with the voltmeter? Most were 3.5V and one or two 5V, some were 0.01V and 0.02 volts..not sure if that is correct

The top right and bottom left pin are ground and should read 0v or near 0v. The second pin fromk the right on the top is +5. The rest are used for data and without cart, all the remaining lines would float.

Since you'r egettintg +5v, you can rule out power supply issue. All you need left is to rule out dirty cart port, bad CPU, bad TIA, bad RF cable, and bad RF modulator.

It may be simplier to grab a second 2600 and swap the CPU, RIOT, and TIA to rule out those chips. Nearly all 2600 I've seen uses socketed chips (maybe 1 in 10 are soldered in place)

well i'm a couple of minutes away of ditching this thing. It gives me all the correct values in the cart slot. I tried cleaning the cart slot , but no change. I also changed the RF cord, no difference. I would like to try replacing the chips but the only other console I have is a 7800, and I'm not about to desolder any chips off that to test out the Sears Telegames II.

I'll see if I can pick up a 2600 cheap and rip the chips out of it, or if anyone has some spare chips they'd like to sell please leave me a message.
