ok laura
what you want to do is work the pin connector back and forth wedging it off.  Make sure your very slow and careful but dont be afraid to be forceul because it will take some strength. After that just slide a new connector on or fix the old one and slide it back on again.

Okay, I got a new connector and put it on and I still have the "Blinking white screen o' death". What else can it be? I've tried 2 carts thus far and I'm getting ready to try a few more....HELP!

The carts fit really tightly into the new connector so that can't be the problem......that mod is nice! I wanna play Dr. Mario!!!!!!!

I need a sticker on mine to promote your excellent mod! Perhaps it should be called the Braut-tendo. :D

You may have a defective ("new") connector. I ran into my first one out of about 10 a couple weeks ago, when I was working on my most recent NES auction. Puzzled the hell out of me, until I just tossed a new one in there.

Remember: When buying Chinese replacement NES parts, buy in bulk - "happy toss bad parts so sorry when as found."

Two quick things:

Bratwurst : _VERY_ nice job on that mod. I would not have thought to turn the mainboard around. Out of curiosity, it looks like the connector you soldered on could get strained. While it would mess with the aestetic, you could add part of the clicky mechanism (the part you push down) to prevent putting the cart in backwards and possibly adding some stability to those big-ol-carts. :D

FYI Side note: the shield seems to act as a ground for parts of the system. I tried leaving off the top shield with one of my decks and that thingwould just blink. Put the top on and it was happy again.

Hex.

I was afraid of the connector's stability myself but after soldering all those points I can't even bend it by hand. I'm sure I could bend it if I really really wanted to, :D but most of an NES cart's weight is near its bottom and there's no problem. If anyone's opened a cart up they'll know what I mean, sucker's empty in there.

By clicky thing you mean the spring loading tray? I've got about three of those kicking around the house after playing Frankenstein, while I turned the mobo around I also flipped it upside down, so carts load label up.

I install new 72 pin connectors in Nintendos for $25 if you would like me to service it.

Are you sure that you have a North American NES and North American carts?

I have a Hong Kong edition game and it won't work in NES units that still have the lockout chip funtioning.

You will get the flashing screen-o-death if you use an import game in a domestic unit.

It's easy to defeat the lockout so you can play anything, I can tell you how as soon as I find my notes.

Shawn
