The back of my Game Gear says 9V, 3W. There are universal adaptors that plug into cigarette lighters that should work fine for you.

Sega made all Genny and GG plugs impossible to replace, other then getting one specialy for the system. You cant just go to rat shack and get one, The only thing you can do is hope to find one on eBay. It took me awhile to realize this myself, trying many generic plugs and such.

Huh? I've used a universal adaptor with my Game Gear before without any trouble at all.... although I usually use a 32X adaptor.

Well, you can use a universal, but it is very hard to keep it powered for more then a couple min. The 'Barrel' design was special to Sega, and there are a few universal ones that fit, loosely, and the slightest bump would turn the power off. I remember trying to use one on my GG, I had to hold it in and down for it to stay on, and if I let off pressure it would shut off.
