Hi all.

If I have my mp3 player or my cd burning machine/cd player on pumping out the tunes while playing games on any console, there is fuzziness on the screen that disappears upon turning off the two above mentioned. They are plugged into a different wall (perhaps the same circuit, I don't know, I didn't wire the house) than the game and tv. I'd like to have tunes on while playing games, but without the screen fuzziness. I can't move them farther apart as I only have so much space. Using the stereo to play the radio, or firing up the tape deck don't do this. Moving the game system to the downstairs tv away from the stereo clears it all up. If I wrap tin foil over the screen it diminishes the interference greatly, but as you can imagine that looks so trashy!

Electromagnetic interference is a bitch, no? Your speakers must not be UL listed or something. I thought that kind of interference was forbidden by the FCC.

You can buy special speakers that are shielded to prevent interference with the TV screen.

Yeah, they're called "normal speakers".

Speakers are not generally shielded unless they are designed to be put near a TV or Monitor. That is, unless you consider a wooden or plastic box to be magnetic shielding (which it isn't.)

I don't think that the FCC regulated magnetic fields thrown off by speakers. I could very well be wrong, but I have never seen speakers with a FCC label on them unless there was an internal amp.

Shielded or unshileded speakers will not cause fuzziness and/or static.

Sheilded refers to magnetic sheilding of the permenent magnet in the voice coil assemply to prevent color shifting and convergance issues that a non-shielded speaker will cause.

The fuzziness is likely being caused by RF from the mp3/cd playing computer. All my C-128's can cause herringbone interference even on cable tv. And I can't use my Bearcat 800XLT scanner with my PC on because it washes out a lot of the spectrum. It's fun to listen to the computer thou via RF. Kinda reminded me of Atari's I/O beep noise.

They really have no clue as to what they are doing most of the time it seems. I felt like crying watching CSpan when they were covering the NTSC standards revision discussions.

No details. Thats part of the sad thing.

Hours & hours of boring dribble between the fcc & manufacturers. Mostly regarding pre-talk of what issue currently need to be addressed regarding making digitial ready tv/vcr's.

Basicly, to this day they are still arguing over how to make sat tv & cable not require a seperate box.

Blurbs about future prospect of digitial broadcast tv. More on the V-chip.

Mfr: We have this.
FCC: We want it to beable to do this.
Mfr: It can't do that. It can do this tho.
FCC: Can't you make it do that and this too.
Mfr: We'll need a few years to look into.
FCC: We'll defer this till hell frezzes over then.
Mfr: In the mean time we can still go ahead with what we got and create half a dozen incompatable standards, right.
FCC: Huh, what?. Standards something. Yeah, sure, whatever.
