Do you collect for just one system or have you picked up others along
the way? This is not counting a modern system just old stuff you collect.

I started out being Coleco only but couldn't keep passing up all the Atari
stuff I was finding at thrifts.

I only collected Atari 2600 stuff (and not much of anything now) because that was basically all I ever encountered in the wild.

In the past 10 years or so, I have passed on a few Intellivisions, an Odyessy2 (once), and a probably non-working Vectrex.

I have yet to see a Colecovision or any other older "classic" systems.

I do have two different pong systems, however, and a relatively new portable NES clone system.

I was mainly a 2600 purist, although I actually got into the 7800 when I first discovered its existence in 1997 (no foolin'!) and bought up a bunch of stuff from O'Shea.

Once I got back into it all seriously in early 2002 I focused solely on the 2600. But then the 2600 stuff got too hard to find cheap (in other words, I already owned everything that I could find cheap) and I made the mistake of buying an Intellivision... that opened the floodgates. Now in addition to those three systems, I also collect 5200 and NES.

The same thing happened to me... I was originally only interested in 2600 games, but I kept finding Intellivision and Coleco stuff, so I started buying that too... eventually I had a room full of systems. I'm a full blown video game slut.

The only stuff I don't collect is stuff that I never find (7800, Virtual Boy, etc), or stuff that is far too expensive for me (PS2, NeoGeo, etc)

Most of the time, I just stuck to Atari consoles. I used to pass up a lot of stuff I didn't have any interest in, like Colecovision, Odyssey2 , NES, SMS, and so on. Now I kick myself for not buying up all those games that Toys 'R Us had marked down to a couple bucks each in their videogame clearance racks in the late '80s, like their Vectrex games and Colecovision stuff. Nowadays, i'd kill to find those games and systems in the wild. But you can't find that kind of stuff in the wild anymore, because speculators buy up all this stuff when they find it and sell it for ridiculous amounts on eBay. It makes it hard for a true gamer to play these games.

Hello. My name is Jason, and I am a Multi-system collector.

[Hi, Jason]

Well.. I started in July just going after NES and Genesis. The Genesis came up when I caved and bought a Genesis 1, Aladdin, Sonic 2 and Sonic & Knuckles. Then I kept collecting and buying. Then I moved to SNES. Then one day I got a Dreamcast. Then I got an N64 game, my first new one in years. Then one day I found myself bidding on a Jaguar. And buying a Master System from a fellow member. Then I won a Sega CD and then bought a 32X from another member. Now I've won a Saturn and later tomorrow may be buying a Playstation.

Am I hooked? You'd better believe it! Do I like it? Fuck yeah!

And it's all because of that first Super Mario Bros 3 in box I found at Game Stop. I only went in there to return Four Swords! But it called to me. It said, "Buy me, Jasoco! Buy me! You want me! Buy me!" Why did I listen to Mario?

:D

I can't think of anything better I'd want to do with my money than collect video games.

(takes a puff from cigar) Yes son, I've seen this story many times. Mario's just like marijuana. Sure he looks like a harmless, pudgy, rolly-polly guy, but the next thing you know ya got a craving for the hardcore stuff. You start wandering through seedy joints looking for your next fix. Or worse, picking up hookers in Grand Theft.

Yes sir, better to never touch the stuff. Drug... er, game abstinence is the best thing. Just Say No.

Or we'll put you in the slammer.

Not really sure of my answer....

I collect for....

X-box - but you said modern systems don't count (but I now have 70+games)

A2600

A7800 (but only because I can use 2600 carts in the thing)

So classic console gaming collecting for me is anything that works in my 7800

:ponder:
But that's just consoles - if we count classic 8 bit computers then my collection is massive :D although I don't use or collect for these anymore.

Hmmm I'm in a monogamous relationship with a polygamist video game collector.... he's done (or nearly so, I can't keep track) with the 5200 and 7800, TG, he tried to complete his DC collection, but I convinced him all the sports games weren't worth it... I just let him do the collecting and reap the benefits... as long as he continues to feed my habit... so I guess I am guilty by association :ponder:

Uhm...Hi...I'm .....

"It's ok, tell us your name"

I'm vdo.

"And why are you here?"

I'm Video, and I'm a crack...er....video game addict. I just can't stop. If I have money, it burns a crater in the cash register, right after burning a hole in my pocket, and I always walk home with way to many games that I don't need. >SOB< I'm broke all the time because my hand magically reaches out and snatches anything that's game related and not bolted down. If I can pry it up, it's not bolted down. I've been to 3 other theripy courses, two of which the theripist commited suicide, so they didn't help me much. I've tried Zanofs, which I guess work, cause I'm down to only 30 new games a day. Whenever I find neglected games and systems, I kick the owners ass snatch and run. I've also tried other pills, but most didn't do a thing. I was contemplating quitting my job, so I wouldn't have money to buy games with, but I can't do that cause of bills. Then I thought about cutting off my hands. I can still say "You want fries with that?" without any hands....right? Just tell them the red stuff is katsup.

"um..Ok, lets stop right there"

Shut up bitch, I'm not finished yet. And people say I have a problem. I don't have a problem. I can quit any time I want. I don't even know why I'm even at this damn thing. I was..... (hand reaches into pocket, and pulls out a gameboy) Oh, looks like I started back up again. But i can still quit....later....

"SHUT UP WITH YOUR CONSTANT BITCHING. You want help? You gotta go to a REAL professional."

But I'm not finished, why, just the other day, I was in the flea market, and the pound had come to collect me, I was sitting on a pile of old games and they thought I was some kind of rabbid dog or something. Just because I bit off the thrift ladie's hand doesn't mean anything. I don't care what you say, all those games are mine, just cause I forgot my checkbook doesn't change that fact......

*BLAM!!! consultant falls over dead*

Oh, well, Thanks anways, you were a lot of help :x , on to the next place...hey...Is that a Master system over there? Oh...just an answering machine. Oh well.

*Picks up answering machine and runs out door*

I collect games for the following systems:

microvision
vectrex
O2
2600
5200
7800
atari 8 bit
lynx
Jaguar
Nes
SNES
gameboy
virtual boy
N64
genesis
NGPC
Neo Geo MVS system
INTV
Colecovision

I own damn near every cartridge system ever released in the US but don't have many games for some. Some that I'm missing are:

Bally Astrocade
Emerson Arcadia
Adventurevision
Trs-80 Coco
Ti99
Tel-Star arcade
Vic-20

Not that I'm really looking for any of these. I mean, I know some day I'll own a Bally Astrocade and maybe a vic-20 but the others seem pretty pointless to own to me.

I try to play my systems as often as possible but, space is currently a problem for me. I can only have a few systems hooked up at the same time to play.

Monogamy is so hard in this day and age. You're not really looking to cheat, but then bang, you're at the mall and they have an N64 for $20 and you think, what the hell, my other systems won't know, and I can pay for it by skipping lunch the rest of the week.

Actually I started by collecting 7800 a few years ago when you could pretty much get everything. Seventy some odd games later I had everything, and I still had the collecting bug.

Since my kids were born and I started a company I've been working on a severely restricted budget, that didn't stop me from picking up a 5200 Zaxxon, which now nearly completes my fifth collection (after 7800, Jag, Lynx and Vectrex). Not to mention my new interest at Sega stuff, at a really good time because Sega is pretty cheap right now.

I only actively collect for several systems at the moment...Atari 2600, Atari Lynx, and to a lesser degree the XBOX.

The problem with collecting for too many systems at once is that you're constantly laying out cash for the games which adds up, and also the fact that you're eventually bound to lose interest in a few of the consoles over time. It's best to focus on 1 or 2 systems and just work on that. Remember, it's not the console that costs the most, it's the games. You've got to have games to get any use out of a system, so resist the urge to buy the used $20 N64 the next time you're at Gamestop. Put that $20 towards a game or two for a system that you already own.

I started out collecting everything classic: from the most obscure pong-systems, to the mainline 2600 stuff. The addition of a wife and kids, among other things, has caused my priorities to shift quite a bit and now I'm only interested in the 2600/5200/Coleco/INTV stuff, and even in those systems my interest has narrowed. (Used to collect every controller, accessory, etc. but now am really interested only in games).

Pretty much what joey said. The only things I've ever passed on buying are Odyssey carts, TI-99/4A carts, and Vic-20 carts. They don't show up that often to begin with, and I can't honestly see myself collecting for them since I don't plan to own the respective consoles and thus wouldn't be able to play them. I may not play everything I own frequently, but I at least make sure I can play it at +all+ when I do want to.

I kinda regret now that the last time I scored a bunch of cheap Jaguar games, I let them all go. I suppose I thought I'd never have a Jaguar, and now that I do, I can't find any games except on eBay. :P

Generally I collect for what I can.

NES I will pick up any game that's cheap enough. I'm going for the whole set eventually.

SNES I'll pick up what looks good. Or if it's cheap. But usually only if it was a good game I never tried.

N64 I only get if it's good. I have gotten one N64 game in the past 3 years. Conker. Only because I never played it and wanted to.

Genesis I collect for the same reason as NES. If it's cheap. And if it looks good. So I can play it on my Nomad.

Sega CD is going for a complete set. So I will selectively bid on what I feel is a good deal. Usually Lot auctions. Saves money and shipping.

32X same as Sega CD. Complete set is the goal.

Saturn has only started. This one I only want the good stuff. I know there are a ton of rare games for that system that I'd be lucky to grab cheap. So I only go for what is good.

Dreamcast I'll get what I can. Good games or cheap games. I'd LOIKE to complete the set, but in reality that will take a while. So I am only going for what I can get. Especially since it's relatively expensive still.

Jaguar is a fuzzy area. I have 3 games that I got with the system. A lot of Jag games are rare and expensive, and the rest are for the CD add-on which in itself is very rare. So that I'll only look for carts that I may enjoy. Mainly it's there to look pretty.

Playstation is new to me again. I traded it in once, now I have it back. Only to play DOOM. But there are a few good PSX games and I'd like to try them out. I'm not going for a complete set here. That would take way too much time and money.

Master System is the same as the Jag. I only have what I got with the system. 8 games. 6 unboxed. I'd like to collect as much as possible, but haven't had time to chase down any auctions.

Primarily, the only systems I'm actually after complete collections are NES and Genesis/CD/32X. The rest I go for what I think I'll enjoy.

Currently I'm in my System stage. I am going after just the systems themself. Once I get the remaining systems, the main part of my addiction will wear off. I only need a Virtual Boy and a Genesis 3 before I can just concentrate on games. What I get, I get. I'm not so hardcore that I need to collect all the Atari systems and such. Or the NNeo Geo stuff. I only want what I want and that's all I want.

I'm in it for the reaction factor. I like hearing people's reactions.

I'd like to get into Game Boy soon. But even then it'll only be one of each system and color. That won't be as hard and is last on my priorities list right now. Dedicating a shelf just for Game Boy systems. One of each color and kind.

I get whatever's cheap and fun. Right now, I own (from oldest to newest):

Atari 2600
Several NES's (all broken, but hopefully one will be fixed soon)
Gameboy (the old monochrome one, I don't know where it fits in the list)
Turbografx-16 and CD (recently aquired)
Sega Genesis and CD (broken)
Playstation 2

i'm not a hardcore collector or anything. I only have a few games for each system, TG-16 and 2600 having the most at about 35 and 30 games respectively. I just like to play what's fun. Except for the Turbografx and all but one NES, I bought all the machines new. I never let go of anything, just lose it sometimes. Someone on this board is supposed to be sending me a 5200 and 7800 soon, and I hope to find a replacement for my Sega Genesis and CD. I think my friends find it odd that I've been playing old games more than new games lately, but they never decline when I ask if they want to play some multiplayer Bomberman on the TG.

I tend to collect Atari and Nintendo stuff. But, honestly, I won't pass up any older video game or computer stuff if I find it in the wild -- I have a stack of TI-99/4A games, some Intellivision stuff, a C-64 someplace, old Apple IIs (lost count), etc.

But, it's the Atari and Nintendo gear that I really like -- I've got a ton of GB/GBC/GBA games, some NES, SNES, N64, and now the cube. On the Atari side it's mostly 2600, but I have a boxed 5200, and some of the 8-bit stuff as well.

I just need a place to set it all up :)
