Mind you, BC's Quest for Tires is a cool game and the first true side-scrolling SMB-type platformer on a console,

Actually, that honor would belong to Smurf: Rescue In Gargamel's Castle,
which came out on the Colecovision in 1982 (it's launch year). BC's Quest For Tires didn't come out until '83.

No, I just played it . . . It is screen-by-screen, like Pitfall and Cabbage Patch Kids Adventure . . .

Conversely, I never liked the Super Action Controllers at all. I have a couple of them, but they feel awkward and clumsy to me.
What about them feels awkward and clumsy? I'm just shocked that someone could feel that way about them, as I feel the complete opposite.
I just don't like the way you hold them. The whole "pistol grip" thing just doesn't feel intuitive to me, and having a ball-top joystick on top doesn't feel right either.

Of course, it doesn't help that most of the SA Controllers I find are missing the ball.

Mine just plain don't work. Is there a way to recondition the contacts on those so they work again. The contacts are like those of the atari first year joysticks and they are soldered in. Any ideas on how to get them working again?

Why not use a sega genises controller on the colecovision. It has 3 buttons so the lack of fire buttons is no excuse.

I've tried a Genesis joystick before, but you can't use it with all games. Obviously, it doesn't have a number pad, but the main problem is that somehow, the Genesis pad ends up triggering random keypad presses anyways (at least, it did on my system), which can really bugger up some games. It works for games like Donkey Kong though.

You've gone 20 years without them... what's another 4-5 months?

Whats wrong with ebay? January is a great time to scoop deals. Fewer
bidders and desperate sellers trying to pay off Christmas bills :)

I just recently aquired a colecovision and after cleaing it up and plugging it into the main tv, I was shocked at how crisp the picture was! My atari's have some static or fuzz, but the CV is as clean as my Nintendo...is there a reason for that(technical)? Also, one of the carts Zaxxon boots up to it's title screen but then provides junk after that...any remedies? Lastly, any must own games for the CV....currently I only have DKong, Carnival and the tempermental Zaxxon.

late,
p

Try cleaning the Zaxxon with rubbing alcohol and a q-tip but it sounds like
the chip died. See the begining of this thread for must have games.
