Help i am new to the whole fixing a atari thing. I turn on my spare 2600 and it displays many different colors or just grey zig zags. Any advice would help?

Do what VB said and get some canned air to get the shit out of the bottom of the slot, and then what I do is take a stainless steel ruler (1/16" wide) and wrap some 600 grit sandpaper (emery cloth) around it and push it into the slot to sand the contacts in the system slightly. Seems to work very good for me.
