Here's my issue. The outside looks great. I took the unit apart (an original Heavy Sixer, manufactured 1/14/81, according to an ancient piece of paper taped to the inside) and was able to get all the dust and grime off of and out of the unit. I have a couple of remaining issues, however:
1) A couple of the switches (mainly the game select switch) are very sticky. I cleaned as much as I dared around them with canned air, and just a touch of rubbing alchohol on a q-tip. What else can I do to improve the action of the switches?
2) There is an area on the side of my TV screen, approx. 5-6 inches long and maybe 1/4 inch wide running down the left side of every game. It doesn't affect game play, it's just annoying. I'm assuming it's one of two things: I have a new TV-Game adapter purchased at Radio Shack to connect the unit to the TV via the "new" standard RF connection. Or, the contacts on the unit itself need to be cleaned. If the latter, how can I clean this area? That portion of the system seems pretty solid, and other than cleaning around the outside, there does not appear to be any way to really clean the inside where the cartridges go.
Any thoughts?
