I just got done playing a good game of Tempest (for me) and scored 717,169 points and was just wondering - what are the best scores you guys have put up?

And also, does a rotary controller make a big difference?

I'm just curious. I love this game and have never known anyone personally who liked it as well, so I've never gotten any idea as to what a good score is.

I don't remember my exact high score, but I did get close to (but not quite) 1,000,000 once. My typical good scores were around 800,000 though. I do know of a few people who hang around here and JI2 that could whip my score without breaking a sweat.

My prievious best score (without a rotery control) was 687,000, with my rotery controler, I got 1,032,000 on my first game, starting from level 1. So I think I would have to say they honestly make a big difference yes (and no Im not just saying that because I'll be selling some soon ).

A rotary controller sounds great. I can't wait until you have some for sale.

I managed to get over 1 million once, years ago, before I had a rotary controller. Generally scores about like yours; 500-800,000 were my average. With my rotary controller, I regularly score above 1 million now.

I just managed to get a scaore of 1,273,804.

As for rotery controls, the ones Im putting together are just like a normal jaguar controler, except where the d-pad is, there is a knob in its place, I will try to take a photo to show you better if you want, and of course when I sell them there will be pictures on the auction page.

No, I just used the standard Jaguar controller that came with the system.

I attained that score about 2 or 3 years ago. I think I was playing Beastly Mode (where the points are supposed to be "doubled," but not truly doubled), and my starting level was somewhere in the 30's or 40's. I went from there all the way to the end of the game.

The highest score I have ever heard of for Tempest 2000 was somewhere around 6,000,000.

I think the knobs Im goina use are out of stock at the moment, but as soon as they get some more I'll get them sent to me and knock out a few pads, see how much interest there is (tho it looks like its quite high).

As for pictures... here ya go, took a few today, the quality isnt great but you can still see what it looks like http://www.geocities.../tyrant_of_arx/

Each time I finish one (apart from the first two which Im keeping ), I'll put it on eBay, with a very low starting price (below the cost to make them), but then it depends how many people are biding on them. I will make as many as I can, in order to keep up with demand, however I cant give an exact figure of how many I will make, it depends on my free time, the cost and availibility of components, and how much they're selling for.

Does anyone know/have the Jaguar-Joystick from
Dark Knight Games / Team 13? I bought one some
years ago and I think it's one of the best joysticks
ever created! (Though it's very simple made).
It's great for playing Tempest, but also for Protector
or Ego-Shooters, well it's great for every game
By the way, my hi-score on Tempest is something
over 2 millions but I never managed to get past
level 97.
