Just thought I'd ask, never seen this topic before. Has any one ever gained parts of their collections due to bad situations? Divorce? Death?
Here is my example. A friend at work has a sister going through a divorce right now, she know I collected "Atari" (games) stuff. So she let her sister know about me, next thing I know, I have a Genny1 and a Genny 2, with all the hook-ups, plus 45 boxed games............$20. :lust:
This lady wanted to screw over her ex while he was away, so she sold me HIS collection without him knowing it! They will split it down the middle. $10 each....
Has any one else gained by this method, or any other way?

I think we're all somewhat guilty of this.
For example, I've acquired lots of games due to the fact that someone was selling out of dire need for money or financial hardship.
I don't necessarily recall having purchased anything directly as a result of a death or divorce though.

I've bought stuff when pople needed the dough but as far as I know, no death or divorce was involved.

To my knowledge, I've not gained any part of my collection due to the misfortunes of others. I have no advance knowledge of why or how the objects I have made their way to thrift stores and eBay though, so who knows?

I've cleaned out several of my friends when they needed money at bargain prices ($3-$5 apiece for N64 games in one case) and far from being ticked they were (A.) happy to get the money (B.) glad to know they went to somebody who would appreciate them and (C.) knowledgeable that most game stores would actually pay less than that. Best of both worlds - I help a friend, and get good games for cheap prices in return. :D

I used to joke that the smart Magic: The Gathering players play with drug addicts because you just know they'll need a hit sooner or later and sell off that rare card. :P
