I faintly recalled a game called Vib Ribbon (PSX) in a magazine a while ago, then saw it again recently in screen-shots.

I remember it was an interesting premise and wanted to see it in person.

Am I to understand it's Japanese only? What else do you know about it? I understand it takes a CD track and creates a platformer out of it that you then have to go through? Sounds fun, interesting and worth an Import.

Tell me more!

I saw a video clip of it once... Thought it would make a great Vectrex game..

If I remember right, it was B/W...

You had this character walking along this line (ribbon). And the line would form certain shapes, like a loop.

And I think you had certain buttons for each shape. Like you'd hit the x button to loop the loop.

Remember, I didn't play it, just saw a vid...

And the designs/shapes on the line could appear based on the music CD you had playing...

There was some talk on the vectrex forum about building an interface for the Vec to recognize enough sound to work, but it never got beyond that.

Sounded so original, it made me take back 2 of the things I thought about the Playstation tho.. :-) :-)

I'll see if I can find the Vid clip again...
(Wonder of the Internet, I found em... :-) )

p.s. None of the mpeg DL's seem to work, but you can see screenshots anyway..

Try this page.. Slow but I was able to DL a video.. (Quicktime)

I'd like to hear from the designers. It looks like they're big fans of vector arcade games, and the Vectrex. The Vectrex was released in Japan, after all.

Judging by the look of it, it's like a Rhythm game with a twist.

I gotta get this thing! And Pepsiman. Two Japanese imports I would love to get my hands on!

its a very unique and fun game, not released in america because of its very basic graphic look.

Which is why I must import it. Anyone know of a site (Besides eBay) that I can just plain order this or Pepsiman? Two PSX games I would actually want to Import.

This is incorrect. It was released statside and then recalled for copyright infringement. I believe the music rights weren't secured for release over here or something like that. In any event. NTSC copies do exist, ALBEIT vary rare because it was pulled off of store shelves nearly the same day it was released. I have both, the Japenese and the European versions. It is a very fun game. Still looking for an NTSC version though. I know a guy who has ~ 20 copies of the NTSC version, but he will only sell them for $400 each. It is cheaper to buy the Jap version and mod your PSX.

Take care,
-Lee

Heh. Wow.

I ain't paying $400 just to have a localized version. I'll just get the Japanese one. :ponder:

If I can find it easily..

There is no localized version of vib ribbon. the NTSC one would also be japanese, since thats the format they use too.

Duh... of course you are right. I meant to say "US Release" as opposed to Japenses or European releases .

Thanks for re-educating me 8)

Fun game though.

for what it's worth-

that is the most enjoyable game that i have played in the past decade.

my only complaint would be that it is too short... but it does have an option so you can play unique 'environments' by placing your own CD's in the drive.

There's a sequel out in Japan, but this time it's not based on music, but words. Since it's all Japanese words you can bet it's never coming to the US.

Still a neat unique idea, but does it allow you to put your own.. uh.. books on tape.. in the PlayStation and make levels too? ;)
