I used to play a lot a game that was absolutely similar to Twin Cobra: the two chopters, simultaneous 2-p action, the add-on weapons, bombs etc.

The main differences were that at the beginning of the game you went across a field and you could shoot at bushes (while Twin Cobra begins across the sea).

Plus, there was a sampled male voice singing in the background music.

Anyone knows the name of this game?

From what you're describing, that sounds like TWIN EAGLE (although in Twin Eagle, you fly a jet). Also, the first stage starts you off in a field with lots of destructable bushes, as you described.

The game is brutally tough and the sampled rock vocals usually play during boss battles.

No, no no. You got it, but it's not that one. It's much more resemblant to the standard twin-cobra, I would say that they are the same game with a different scenary. And the sampled voice sings most of the time. From what I could hear (+ remember) it sings something like:

ruun, ruun, ruuuuun...
I'm gonna take you hiiiigh-eeeer

I could swear the lyrics you quote sound just like the rock vocals out the Twin Eagle boss battles. Perhaps it is a hack that combines elements of TC and TE? Personally, I've never seen or heard of the game you're describing, but who knows!

:?
But it can't be that game... I kick ass at Twin Cobra and suck at Twin Eagle... The gameplay MUST be twincobra-style, or it would be the opposite...

aah Twin Cobra! One of my old favorites. Wasn't there a Twin Cobra 2? I seem to remember playing that game.

Anyway off the top of my head, some games similar to Twin Cobra...

Tiger Heli
Ajax
Thunder Dragon

There might be more, but that's all I can think of at the moment.. is it any of those?

;) Though, it's a very frustrating one. Those games where you get almost defenseless everytime you die sucks. :x

Yes, but it's too much recent, it can't be it.

Hmmm... not the latter, but that Tiger Heli is almost identical to TC. I have to dwnld... er... :ponder: AHEM! I mean: as I own the original ROM chip, I will read it and try the game... :D

None of them

Nevermind guys, and thanks for help. It was probably some obscure hack with a mix&match of various features.

Hey Adrian, I reached the jet-fight stage after hard efforts (the game's continue mode sucks :x you don't loose just your weapons but you even get back to a previous stage  ). Well, that's exactly the music I was talking about, even though listening again to it I'd say it sings "wild wild wild, gonna take it down"... :ponder:

Unfortunately, my beloved game is proving to be a hack with a mix&match of various hardwares... :(
