Tempest
Does anyone know how difficult it is to replace the belt in a Famicom Disk system? I've heard you can use certain vaccuum cleaner belts in place of the official Nintendo part. Any truth to this? Tempest
GrizzLee
You probably could use a vacuum belt. I would have never thought of doing this. But it seems like a viable solution. I would take the broken belt to a Sewing and vacuum store or repair center and get the the same size. Actually, you may want to try a Sears repair center. They have belts for all kinds of appliances and equipment on hand. Good luck and let us know what you find. -Lee

Adrian M
There was a guy by the name of BlueVoodoo who operates an online gaming store www.egameaddiction.com who had tons of these belts in stock not too long ago. I suggest you check with him before resorting to paying insane overseas shipping costs.

Susuwatari
Do make sure you get the exact size belt if it's not from Nintendo. FDS has a touchy timing issue. If the belt is even a millimeter too small or big, the disk would spin a little to slow or fast and the FDS will spit an error message. The motor doesn't use any feedback system from the disk to maintain correct speed. Cheap design yeah but I don't think Nintendo wanted anyone to grab a $0.01 rubber band for replacement belt.
