I have a spare Computer sitting around and was wanting to know if these specs would allow me to use it as a 2600 Dev enviroment.

computer:
OS Dos 6.22
pII 466
Ram 16 MB
540 MB Hdd
S3 Virage Video card
Sound Blaster AWE 32 (ISA)
Cheap Packard bell Vga
one 2 button joystick

Is there any thing that i need to change with the setup above ?

If so i would really appreciate any Advice on what needs to be done to make it a working programming environment.

Thanks in Advance for any and all help

Definitely, that's plenty of computing power. Now you just need to load a DOS version of DASM and the Z26 emulator on the machine and you are good to go.

Cheers!

But if you get Windows running, you can use better tools (e.g. Textpad). All tools will still run under any 32bit Windows, just for the emulator it may be better to switch to z26win for better performance. Especially when using a Win NT based OS (NT, 2000, XP).

Your CPU's power is way high enough, but your RAM is a little bit too low. For Win95 you need at least 32MB (better 64MB) for comfortable working, other OSes require more.

Thomas, so a Windows Dev Environment is better then ?,

I found more ram my total is now 128 MB but my hard diskis limited to 540 MB so would a min install of win 2000 pro fit in there with all the tools too ?.

Thanks for taking the time to answer a lot of dumb questions Thomas.
