Look. It's real easy.

1. Mame-ing a JAMMA cabinet == fine. They're pretty generic anyway and they're made to be multi game friendly.

2. Mame-ing a WORKING pre-84 classic cabinet = blasphemy! DON'T do that! I'm sure a lot of people do.. but personally I find it disgusting. :P If it's rotted out or been converted to various things in it's life.. then sure. But if it's in good original shape and working.. that's just sad :(

YES! Acceptable:

NO! Unacceptable:

Not sure on what I want... the last guy I gave a price of $200.

(And yes, I tried BYOC... no buyers).

No alterations are planned to the cab.... but like I said... I have a different project to work on first and if the intrest is there... I will sell it.

:)

I'm going to bed for a little bit... just got off work.

(Wasn't there a conversion kit of Major Havoc? Perhaps that is the conversion kit rather than Mame? Not sure)

I don't get why anyone would MAME a working cabinet, especially when there are so many non-working generic cabinets out there.

I've got some hate mail about my MAME cabinet (which is in a Donkey Kong Jr. cabinet), but by the time I got it someone had already converted it to JAMMA and it had a bad board and bad monitor in it.

Because for some people, that's all they can find. for the longest time all I could find was a POW JAMMA cabinet that works perfectly. I was going to convert it to MAME basically because I couldn't find any nonworking cabs in my area. Now, I didn't intend to remove the sideart or marquee or to even take out the PCB... I was just going to put a PC motherboard in there on the side of the cab and use a JPAC. I see nothing wrong with doing that.

Working cabs (or complete, but not currently functional) were all I could find for the longest time, but I refused to destroy a complete classic game to make a MAME system. If you're in the market for an empty cab, you need to be patient, and when you do find one, you need to act quickly. An astounding number of them get chopped up and tossed in the dumpster or on the bonfire.

I've got a turbo upright in Kansas City that will be joining that number soon if someone doesn't come get it. And a couple of others that I'll let go pretty cheap. I'm seriously out of room. I just had to bust up a pinball because I couldn't make any room for it.

I cabnet is just a box with a monitor.. why waste a WORKING arcade cab for that? its soo easy to pic up a toasted cabnet for under 100 bucks (usually wiht a monitor) so why destroy a piece of history.. as for converting it back later.. this rarly actually happens,, most often the parts get lost, or the machine gets sold once and parts are left behind.. a mame is easy.. why waste a piece of history for a mame project??????????????

Because why would I want an ugly, generic JAMMA cab sitting in my living room or basement? I'm mainly interested in owning a arcade cab because of the way it looks, the side-art, the cool bezel, light-up marquee. I have zero interest in MAMEing some generic cabs like NE146 pictured. Just the fact it's in a cab doesn't do anything for me. It has to be a cab of a classic game I really like the looks of. I can play any of these games for free on MAME. I don't need an ugly, generic cab just to waste space.

How does inserting a small PC into the cab and hooking it up the monitor "destroy" a classic machine. You don't have to do any permanent alterations to do this. You don't have to throw away the original PCB.

Great deal! I was always semi-interested in these Exidy games because there's so many other cool games that can run on that hardware;Chiller, Crossbow, Cheyenne etc..

Okay, that was probably bad wording on my part. What I should have said was that I didn't want to take apart any working maching to make a MAME cab. I know that if I owned a working arcade machine I'd want to keep it as is and buy a gutted cab to make a MAME system.

I wouldn't touch the working arcade, there's a lot of info in the web about making your own cabinet. in the other hand, if the arcade it's broken or whatever, I will mame that cabinet in a heartbeat :)

Not sure of the working state of it... that picture is pretty much all of the info I have. The art and the controller look intact, though, so it's definitely worth the $50. I still haven't received it, the guy is having delivery issues. I'm going to get it working with the original game and then possibly add in some of those other boards you mentioned with a switch.
