Why hasn't anyone tried this before?

Once I adapted a PC joystick to the 2600. It worked well in Missile Command, and Super Breakout. but It didn't work in any other games. I need to work on it to make it talk like a regular joystick, and not a trackball/paddle when it's in a game other than the type that would take those controllers.

Atari controller port has 2 analog and 5 digital input so why hasn't anyone adapted an analog PC controller (2 or 4 buttons) to work with Atari 2600?  I mean it can't be that hard to come up with a simple game that can be used with analog joystick with multiple fire button.

I'm not sure the phrases "simple game" and "2600 programming" go together :)

If someone writes a game for just themselves as an exercise, it's not much reward/praise for all the effort,

if the programmer sells carts, most people won't buy because they need to solder up the joystick connector themselves,

if the programmer sells the cart and joystick together, it's a ton of work.
