In Stella, use F12. By default, it will save a PNG image to the same directory (in Windows) or the $HOME directory (in Linux). There are commandline options to change where the snapshot is saved or how it's named.
Steve
I was wanting to post some game pics on my wordpress blog. When I press F12 while using Stella it says that the screen has been saved. What I don't understand is how to locate it in Windows??? I don't understand how to follow the instructions above. Could somebody explain this so that a person who bumbles his way around on a PC can understand it:)
First of all, a lot of things have changed since 2004
Go to Options -> Config Files -> Snapshot path. This shows where snapshots are saved. By default it stores in ~/Application Data/Stella somewhere, which admittedly is a bad choice since that folder is hidden in Windows Explorer. Click the button to select a new directory (perhaps your desktop folder) and then try taking new snapshots. Then they should appear in the location you specified.
Thanks for your response to my question. Which options do I go to? I use Mozilla not IE does that make a difference? Sorry if these are dumb questions but I really want to figure this out. I looked at the folders in the Stella program but didn't see anything. Please help:)
Actually, I was referring to the options within Stella itself. As soon as you start the application, notice that there are four buttons along the bottom. One of them is labeled 'Options'. You click this button, and then another set of buttons appear. From that selection you click 'Config Files'. Finally, yet another UI appears, and you click 'Snapshot path'. This gives you a file browser that looks something like the following:
It won't look exactly like this, since I'm on a Mac right now. Anyway, click the 'Go Up' button to move upwards in the file system (ie, to select parent folders), and double-click on entries in the list to enter folders. When you find the folder you want, click 'Choose'. Then click 'OK' to all the windows that appear.
I would suggest saving the snapshots in your C: drive for now, until you get comfortable with navigating the filesystem. And the next release of Stella will fix this, and choose more appropriate defaults saving snapshots.
