Hey Tempest, others,
Does anyone know of a prototype football for either the Atari computer or the 5200 where there is one extra player per team? I seem to remember an early 5200 ad with a picture that seemed to suggest this. I'm guessing that, if the original plan was to have more players per team, it was probably changed so the gameplay wouldn't move even SLOWER?

I have an 8-bit proto of Football that is different from the final somehow. I haven't really examined it though. I'll dump it and release the rom if I get a chance this weekend.

I just viewed the first 5200 ad booklet here on this site, and it does show a screenshot of Football with seven players for each team. The final version only had six players per team.
It also looks like the offense and defense are both in formations not used in the final version of the game. The later ad fold-out poster from 1983 shows a more accurate picture of the game: Six players each.
