Link shows capture of binary running on actual '2600 -- demonstrating flicker-free large sprite animation. Those who purchase a Krokodile Cartridge will be able to see this running 'in the flesh', so to speak.

I can't view the file. I get the error message below. Has anyone had any luck viewing the file? Which program did you use to view it?

Thanks!

I can't see it either. It says that I don't have the proper codec.

I can see the video when I play it with VLC:

http://www.videolan.org/

That program handles everything you throw at it :)

I think the headers are wrong in the file because the VLC log took lots of tries to find a suitable codec, I'm not even sure what it used.

Played for me using MediaPlayer.

It was using the Elcard Mpeg2 codec when it played, so it looks like it's Mpeg2/Hardware Mpeg format.

I've converted it to VCD size/format, so this may work for you...

Worked fine for me. It opened in Windows Media Player.

That's running on a 2600?!

I was sort of hoping to see the flying pig logo from the Roger Waters "In The Flesh" tour. :-D

Just a guess: "In The Flesh" would be referring to seeing the demo firsthand, rather than through an mpeg video file. I think that Andrew is noting the pun "in the flesh" in regards to the naked dancing baby.

I'm not sure if Andrew is telling us that the Krokocart come with the demo preinstalled, or that it will have the capability to store and run it on real hardware. Mine was ordered on day one, so I guess I'll find out soon enough! :-)

Ah! Much better, thanks. That looks very nice. It looks interlaced to me. Is that an interlaced chronocolor image? :ponder:

No, technically it's a non-interlaced *spasticolour* ™ image. I plan to interlace it soon, and that should improve it slightly. The demo isn't pre-installed on the Krokodile cart; I was just observing that to see this running on an actual '2600 the *only* option at the moment is to download and run it on your Krokodile cart. The MPG was made from the output of my '2600 running the demo on my prototype Krokodile cart, showing what it *actually* looks like on real hardware.

...and it did! A fair bit of improvement, actually. The attached image (unretouched) shows a side-by-side comparison. The non-interlaced image is on the left, the interlaced image on the right. They are using *exactly* the same graphics/frame data -- the only difference is the generation of an interlaced TV frame.

It does kinda suck that Chad doesn't plan on supporting your 512k 3F bankswitching technique on the CC2. :(

So, buy a Krokodile Cart. Just wait till you see 3E in action. All the benefits of 512K 3F switching, with 32K of RAM to play with. Can anyone say "Boulderdash"?

Single-frame comparison of original art vs. what's displayed on the '2600. Note the red, green, blue letters have been added to aid the comparison.

Yeah, it seems like Andrew is the only one that would ever actually use the 512k that is on the cc2. 8)

I will probably end up buying the krokodile cart, but I would like to get some other things first. Plus I don't really need to spend that much money to play one demo :D

Just tried this demo out on the Krokodile Cart and it looks pretty damn awesome! I look forward to seeing some clips of something other than the baby, but this proof of concept is pretty impressive for the 2600. :D

This is from a Krokodile Kart, plugged into a '2600 Jr with RF output going direct to a $20 video capture card, saved as MPG, then converted with TMPGEnc into VCD quality for your viewing pleasure.
