shadow460
Played it through on actual hardware... It won't start with a standard 2600 joystick. I'm not sure if this is by design or not, since it is a 7800 game. The red line on the riverbank is still present, but this time it's present from the start. I noticed some flashes in the graphics--mostly items would flicker of and on, but once the entire screen garbled for a second, then play resumed as normal. The lady frog is green, and I can't see a change in my frog's color when I pick her up Last thing, and probably the most noticeable, was in the sound. DUring gameplay, there was a rumbling in the background that sounded like the tanks in the 2600 Combat game. This makes me think it's coming from the TIA, but I can only guess. Other than those, the game is very clean and enjoyable to play. I think it'll be a success.
Schmutzpuppe
Thanks for the input guys. I tried to remove the flicker issue shadow460 mentioned. With my NTSC device I don’t have a flicker problem but it has a very bad video out so maybe it’s just not visible for me. I made some additional changes: Trigger works now with Proline and standard joystick. Now you can pause the game. PAL crocodile graphics bug removed. Cartridge Pokey/XBoard Pokey detection (doesn’t work on Prosystem Emu because SKREST/RANDOM is not supported) When pressing “Pause” during the title screen you enter the option menu. First you get a screen where you can adjust the Y-Position of the playfield with stick up/down. That could be interesting for NTSC users because the game uses the whole vertical screen and maybe it helps if your TV isn’t able to show the complete screen with default setting. If you press “Pause” again you enter the sound menu where you can toggle between TIA, (Cartridge) Pokey and XBoard sound. It would be great if any XBoard user could tell me if it works for him. Shadow460 mentioned that there is no color change if you pick up the lady frog like in the Arcade. That’s true but I can not change it because the frog and the snake share the same color and that would mean that snake would also change the color Froggie.zip Edited January 8, 2007 by Schmutzpuppe
gambler172
Hallo Matthias eine wirklich gute Version.Allerdings ist beim grossen Krokodil noch ein kleiner Grafikfehler. Das mit Select stimmt, ist noch zum debuggen, damit springt man in das nächste Level und bekommt wieder drei Leben

That’s true but I can not change it because the frog and the snake share the same color and that would mean that snake would also change the color OK, I tried it in the CC2 with the Pokey removed. It's playing music but no other sound effects when it's playing the tune. Also the song's notes are not playing with the right tempo. It will go fast then slow than fast again as if it's getting slowed down at times by the program. With this version would it be playing the music if it can't access the Xboard. Another words, does it default to the TIA if it can't access a pokey anywhere? With the Pokey in the CC2 the music and sound is fine. stilth60050
Hi, New to the 7800, grew up with atari vcs (2600), i am hoping that there will be a homebrew cartridge released for this game. i love the 1970s & 1980s arcade games.

I still don't know if I have my xBoard hooked up right so it might be my 7800 that's the problem. Allan I recently installed an XBoard in my console and I can't get any sound out of it either. Like Allan's post from 2 years ago, I can't confirm that I have my XBoard installed correctly - this is the only game I know that attempts to use it. But since he had the same problem, I just want to corroborate the possibility that this game's XBoard mode might not be working. It defaults to TIA, and then I use the menu to manually select XBoard mode. If anybody knows of a different ROM that will test XBoard audio, I'll give it a try just to make sure mine's hooked up right. == Another issue I noticed - this game has an odd way of using the controller buttons. A Genesis pad won't work properly, though I don't remember anymore specifically what happened. With a 7800 controller, only the left button works. Since 2 buttons aren't needed, it really should just use the legacy 2600 button mode, that way the controllers would be more compatible. It's an amazingly good port of the arcade version - I hope Schmutzpuppe can get back to it.

gdement
As far as I can tell it's not working with the beef drop demo either, so I'm not sure where the problem is. It might not be the game. Edited June 1, 2009 by gdement
shadow460
Just a long shot... IIRC there's a lead that runs from the XBoard to somewhere in the 7800's output circuit. I have never worked with an XBoard so I really don't know much about it, but I remember seeing that in some hook up diagrams. Think you might have left that wire off? Yeah, I soldered a wire to the EXTAUD line (pokey line from the cartridge port). I've tried connecting it to either of the 2 pins on the XBoard, but it sounds the same as if it's not plugged in at all.

I've tried connecting it to either of the 2 pins on the XBoard, but it sounds the same as if it's not plugged in at all. If you are still getting the TIA music then it is not detecting the xboard pokey chip so it probably wouldn't be the wire. If you are not hearing any music at all and only a few TIA sound effects then it would probably be the audio connection. I don't know for sure if Beef Drop xboard support works since I don't have one but I think at least one person said it did. --Ken

So assuming the software support works, then either my POKEY is bad, or the xboard doesn't work... The Maria was factory-socketed so it's not the soldering. I probably should have started another thread about the hookup, sorry to derail the topic. Edited June 2, 2009 by gdement

Thanks for the info it’s good to hear that it works. On the other hand that means that my XBoard is faulty Did you run the game on a NTSC Device? I wonder if there is still the flicker issue…?
