Ok, I am definately doing something wrong.

Any tips for those barely breaking into the 5 digits?

Are you using a joystick?

A bit late, but here some tips (still a bit shocked because goochman hasn't put my final score in ):

Have a look at the movement of the bandits. Presume the direction they will move next and move in that direction before they do.
Don't get too far away from the enemies. They will shoot in a high degree, crossing your line with shots for a wide range, so you cannot move around it and you have to waste shield.
Shield can be pre-pressed to have it longer active.
For the usage of the shield you have to presume, if it's needed or not.
And the most important thing: Still hitting the Bandits


And, no, I'm using not a joystick. The latency is to high. With the keyboard it's a bit better, but there is still some delay that doesn't happen on the real thing.
