Phew... that final end boss of Gun.Smoke is tough. I got him down to 2/4 thrice so far, but beating him still seems to be far away...

Ha! I just beat Gun.Smoke!

After trying to defeat the final boss for about 4 hours already, I figured out a pretty cool trick for that battle that I didn't see documented or recorded so far:

You simply let the left Wingate guy alive and then attack the boss from the very top of the rightmost bridge. I don't know how reliable that works, but it did work for me the very first time I tried it like that :D

I think I'll play Section-Z now.

I found my next challenge here in trying to get 500K worth a score in 1943 Kai. Beating the game in co-op with my wife was yet another cakewalk with unlimited continues, but getting that score might require beating the first 3-4 levels on a single coin :o

Well, I'm halfway there now with 250K in my best try so far :)

BTW: My new component cable was the best 5€ ever spent for the PS2: It improved the graphics quality dramatically on our HD!

Okay, achieving those 500K was easier than I initially thought. Apparently the trick is to get the "bubbles" weapon and never loose it for the entire game :)

Is the bubbles weapon one that destroys bullets, too? That was the one I used exclusively in the NES version of 1943.

That's the one exactly! I think the game refers to it as "shotgun". Since it wipes out the bullets too, it makes you virtually invincible against everything coming from the front :)

Yeah, I think that it is actually weaker than the other special weapon, like it takes two hits to down an enemy plane instead of one hit, but the spread and speed at which they come out make this kind of a nonissue. Of course, when I beat it on the NES, I used an NES Advantage for the autofire and joystick. To this day, I can't play it worth a damn unless I use the Advantage.

I've enjoyed following your updates.

Are you going to move on to the sequel when you finish up?

Yes, I intend on playing through the games from the 2nd volume as well, in fact I already bought it. Next game on my list is Mega Man Powered Up though - I finally got a PSP last week!

Uihjah... Ghouls 'n Ghosts Arcade sure is harder than the Genny one. After playing a couple of hours tonight I only made it up to the Arreemer castle where you have to fight at least four Red Arreemers in a row :-o

Some parts along the way took surprisingly long to beat, especially the 2nd half of the first level and the maggot boss right after the ice cave.
