You have earned my respect, O Astroblast expert.

Nice work--uh, I mean, play.

Thanx!

My tip - Use a real paddle. I just tried playing with Stella and got 17,800 using a paddle(the range is different than on the VCS, will take a bit to get used to).

In other words, if you're using an emulator it would be to your advantage to purchase a Stelladaptor before the next paddle game comes up on the HSC.

I was thinking about the 999,990 and rolling. That's probably what would show if I killed off all my bases after rolling the score.

SpiceWare congratulations! That's an amazing score! I'm going to try and play some more today or tomorrow, but I'd be happy if I broke 20,000. What I like about HSC is it challenges you to do better, and shows you what a better standard is. There are such good gamers in here! It's fun. :)

Rolled it! Guess it doesn't max at 999,990.

How long do you think that took?

Ok, being inspired, I just played a round. I quit a 131200 with 61 bases left. After I hit 100000 it seemed like the number of bases shot up. (I'll go back through this thread and see if that was mentioned elsewhere). I guess that's probably 45 min to an hour of playing. Getting to the point of too long of a time investment.

about 6 hours. I took lots of breaks. I did get a bit nervous about losing power at one point when it started thundering :ponder:

Hmm, I noticed something around 500K. I'd just past 500K, then died a few times in a row. When I was back over 500K the # of bases seemed higher than it should have been. I figured I was imagining things, so didn't think about it until you mentioned it.

Ok - there is a glitch around 100K. I imagine it happens around every 100K as I noticed something at 500K.

at 100K I had 33 bases. I purposely killed a few to get my score under 100K. By the time I was back over 100K I had 62 bases!

I did it again and got the bases to 99. They max at 99 - I feel silly now for purposely dieing yesterday the couple times I got in the 90s.

Thanx!

What I like about the HSC is I'll play games I've not played before. I have 178 games(4 Starpath tapes, the rest cartridges), yet I always find myself playing the ones I played as a kid. For the games I don't have on cartridge I have a Krokodile Cartridge(it had troubles with Sir Lancelot though).

Astroblast is one I have on cartridge. The only time I tried it before HSC was when I was winning lots(as in sold-as-a-group) of cartridges on ebay and I'd try them all to see if they worked.

Ok. I had around 20 bases at one point. Next time I looked it was 42; then I THOUGHT I saw it flicker up to 56. Cool. I guess that settles it.

2450 Good thing the game keeps 'peak score', since I quickly started dying and the score plumetted to zero. If I had a Stelladaptor and some decent paddles I could probably do much better.

Well, that's the end of this week's edition of the High Score Club. I hope you all had fun with Astroblast, one of the unsung classics in the 2600's library. Congratulations to everyone on their scores, and especially to SpiceWare for not only dispelling the "score maxes at 999,990" myth, but finding some rather odd bugs in the game!

I hope you'll all join us next time when our game will be Galaxian!
