Ok,

I have this cart and started it up today - How the heck do you finish screen 1?

Right past the #2 elevator there is a jump which is impossible - the top girder with the slide I cannot finish - I can make a jump to that girder but fall down the slide when I move - I cannot jump right since Bob flies too far - I see no other way to get to this girder??????????

I cant seem to jump to the small girder to the left - Only the one beneath it.

This is tough and only the FIRST screen!

The trick is very simple: you can control jumps with joystick after pressing fire.

Ah - got it :) - Boy these levels are hard as hell - I wonder if the difficulty on these impacted the amount of sales?

I agree. The levels are way hard vs. the original. I wouldn't be surprised that it is so rare because of the difficulty. Games that are rare typically so because they sucked so bad nobody wanted them. In this case playability-wise BBSB does border on suck. :|

Wait til you see the grain elevators, mutants on the move, or the flying teleport.

Come talk to me about ridiculous then.
I've played the 5200 cart and the official emulator from Big Five.

how about using the inbuilt cheat on the A8 version.... if mem serves me right the number is either 61800 or 61000 or 61500

I did enjoy BBSB upto level 3, i also enjoyed miner 2049r... all a8 (and it's most famous of clones and rip off's... Jet set willy/manic miner)

I would'nt say BBSB sucked, it was a very good game, just that the difficulty level was set too high...bearing in mid of course that it was supposed to be an improvement on miner 2049r

I wonder how much an american 'scaper caper' cartridge would fetch on ebay or any auction site (scaper caper was the orig. name for BBSB)

I've got BBSB for the 5200. The level of difficulty is abusive no doubt about it.

And the game is absafrigginlutely impossible to play with the 5200 sticks. Using my RSI stick and 7800 Redemption makes it merely mind meltingly difficult :)

According to the authors, there is no code left for Scraper Caper.

http://www.orphanvid..._5200_list.htm... as well, damn only 5200, come bk glenn all is forgiven

further more deathtrappomegranate, just a tinsy bit upset that they (big five) didn't try the copyright angle with Miner 2049r, that way, they could have put the kybosch on games like manic miner and jet set willy etc (which played on the same theme and also the fact that matty smith (who programmed the latter 2) admitted that he'd basically cloned or ripped off miner 2049r (in various interviews)

What are you on about carmel_andrews, Scaper Caper on that site is clearly a TYPO!!!

deathtrappomegranate is linking to the ACTUAL BIG FIVE website, I would think Bill Hogue knows what he is talking about, after all its a slightly more primary source...

ah....i love bbsb... what a great game... very "atarish" imho... i love the intro screen and the high score table as well... all nicely done...

but the best is on the big 5 site... esp. the TRS80 ads and packs... "now with sound effects"...hahahaha... great... and the "artworks to tease the public" from bbsb is a nice one as well... nothing changed in 20 years of game biz... ;)

but why the hell did i not released my games back in the 80s... aarg then i could have the cheque... ;)

Ah ha... Heaven/TQA...you've finally spilled the heinz, now we know your little secret... YOU ARE A GAMES PROGRAMMER (despite your earlier protestations...there's nothing to be ashamed of, calling yourself a games programmer, just slightly more involving then what your'e doing now)

i am afraid...i am not a game programmer...but when i got my vic-20 my father told me i should walk down this route but instead i have studied business administration and marketing... working now since 5 years in games & entertainment industry...i realise more and more that the mechanics haven't changed when i read those old stories...

so...at the end of my life i will always think "what could have been if..."

i have released several vic-20 games as listings in german magazines... i was proud when i got (if i recall it right...) 240 US$...much money for a 14-year old... :)

some day my credo was not to make your hobby to your business... as the fun will turn away... but later i realised that this "fun" and "passion" doing things is exactly what the average professionals distringuish themselfs from the archer mcleans, david brabens, david cranes, tom griners, bitmap brothers, etc... i hope you got my point.

what do we say in marketing "you can't sell well when the fire is not burning in your heart"...

Too true regarding the marketing line... keep up with the selling (only joking)

re:jetboot/steve...you totally missed the original point i was making... irrespective/regardless if it was a typo, i was right in my orig. assumption i.e the orig. BBSB or what would have followed Miner 2049r if big five had the gumption to stick with it
