Hi

I have a NTSC 800 XL, and I want to know if is it possible to replace some hardware components on the XL motherboard to 'convert it' into a working PAL XL.

My first guess is that I should replace the clock crystal and the OS.

Anything else that I should replace to make this conversion work?

Regards

Years ago one of the members of the AUG i was with did one of the first ntsc-pal 1200xl mod's (early 80's so he said), by hacking bit's and pieces from a working 800xl, he actually had it up and running on his big tv screen, i remember the colour scolling atari logo screen (similar to the 800 memo pad screen)

I guess this u/g or mod, predated the one supposedly done by nir diry/dary

Hi

While researching on this subject I found this document:

http://atrey.karlin....ari/nirpal.html

...and this other one too:

http://thor.prohosti...ri8/palntsc.htm

Looks like I have to replace the ANTIC chip too.

BTW, has this topic been discussed here before?

Regards

Sorry, but it's kinda funny that you, precisely from Chile are asking this ...

One of the men that likely has the most experience with this, is living in Chile since quite some years ago. And he probably was one of the first in the world that did those conversions. He made a living in your neighbour country, converting consoles, and later computers, from NTSC to PAL.

And yes, of course, he did that before Nir even saw an Atari at all.

Yeah, I guess you didn't know. Sorry, I couldn't resist

lbaeza, just replace your NTSC Antric chip with a PAL one, onthing else needs to be done!. you will need a Mutlisystem monitor or if you are using a standard VGA monitor then you can use one of those Composite to VGA adaptor box (they support multisystem)

Nir, but then you'll break all the programs that adapt themselves to 50/60Hz according to the GTIA PAL register. (but I don't really know how many games do that).
