Important note: This weeks competition is over. If you still wish to discuss this game, then feel free to do so, but no further scores will be accepted. Thanks to everyone for all their contributions! Please join in on the latest High Score Club competition!

Your mission is to destroy as many Hyperion Military Bases as possible. You can fire missiles through the gaps in the Force Field or from inside the Force Field. If you are able to sneak inside, you must quickly destroy the Base before the Force Field closes in on your Assault Ship. This is no easy task! The Base can construct electrifying Shields during battle and is protected by a variety of deadly defenders. If you are able to avoid all of them, you will be truly deserving of the title Spacemaster X-7.

Hints and Tips

The Manual said:

As always, you really should read the manual.

What's that? You don't have the manual? AtariAge has a typed copy online. In case you're too lazy to read the manual, here's the hints it provides:

- Watch to see which type of defense weapon is forming within the Base. Each acts differently and requires a different strategy.
- On the higher levels, avoid the area where the Shields will appear first. Otherwise, you could get hit with no warning.
- When moving through the Force Field, try to fly directly toward the base, then fire when you are almost touching it. As soon as you hit the button, you will stop moving.
- At very high levels take your time and hit the Base from outside the Field until the energy level drops and the outer Shields are absorbed.

LarcenTyler said:

These are my personal tips:

-If you have an opening and you think you can make it without being hit by an enemy, dart in and then unload on the base.

-If you need to take shots at the base from outside the shield, try to time your shots carefully, since hitting the shield restores power to the base.

SpiceWare said:

My tips - for when the levels get harder

Start of round
A) stay on the extreme left/right edge of the screen
B) at the start of the round, line up horizontally with the closest shield so your shots will rapid fire
C) If the enemy in the middle is the Fireball, Heat Seaker or Homer then stay put and rapid firing against the shield. The Heat Seaker and Homer will come at you and end up in your line of fire. Ignore the Fireball.
D) Once a Bouncer or Wander appear your set to start attacking the Hyperion Base.

Take out the Base
1) To attack the Base wait for the pulsing Force Field to begin to collapses inward.
2) As it collapses inward move your ship up/down to where the point of the force field would touch the left/right edge of the screen if it where fully expanded.
3) Take a shot or two when the force field is closest to the Base.
4) Move up/down out of the way as the force field expands.
5) go back to step 1

While attacking the base avoid hitting the Bouncer or Wander. If you do you'll need to go back to A in case a Fireball, Heat Seaker or Homer show up to replace it.

Never played this game before, thank God for emulation and Stelladaptors!

Edit: 44,225 on my second game. Good choice for a game also. I thought my joystick broke until I figured out holding down the fire button keeps you in one place and engages autofire. You can then toggle the direction you want to shoot. I hate reading instructions, but it's probably in there somewhere.

Now this looks to be an interesting game. Had I known about it sooner, I would've picked up the cartridge. At any rate, here's my first score.

It's too bad this game is a little bit on the rare side. It really is a good game, and it's shame it's not more available to everyone. I don't think it's as hard to get as Subterranea though. New score 66,425.

It is one of the more harder to find titles, but it's not very expensive, usually under $10 loose. Boxed it can go $50+

I only just started playing this in the last couple weeks. I've been trying to play more of my games. So many I still haven't ever really learned to play.

Here's my first score for this week: 96,700

I played a quick game this morning before coming to work, didn't have time for a screen shot. I got 74k and some odd points, I'll play again tonight.

Darn! My Spacemaster X-7 is sealed. Should I break the seal? :ponder:

Too bad I didn't get a Dig Dug score in, I would have made 1st place  ;)

LOL Do ya'll own a hot glue gun? |style_emoticons/atariage/icon_innocent.gif

I think I could open & resell one of those & you'd never know. Removing shrinkwrap is one thing, and sometimes I have to think about it, but breaking the seal on a fox game really isn't that big a deal IMO.

Just goes to show what a little practice can do for you. These are my personal tips:

-If you have an opening and you think you can make it without being hit by an enemy, dart in and then unload on the base.

-If you need to take shots at the base from outside the shield, try to time your shots carefully, since hitting the shield restores power to the base.

Hey code junkies, are there any known differences between X-7 and the Taiwan Cooper SPIDER? I have both and they seem identical. Anyone ever compare the code?
